EGS52 Can this unit be replaced Without programming?

for C240 Sport Auto 1998-2000 4tronic.

No tip change; car drives in 1st/2nd and reverse no 3rd and does not change down. Replaced 13 pin adaptor socket; ATF oil is MB and level is correct. Replaced Brake switch. Next - Conductor plate clean / replacement. BUT maybe TCU?? So could I buy a second user EGS52 and use it without programming. Comments please. No codes coming out of the diags for transmission. BUT I am getting data from the ECU ... wheel speeds/ engine data OK. Your help please!

No you can't replace the tcm without coding. Before trying to replace it I would find someone with a STAR or icarsoft diagnostic tool and try and communicate with the tcm. When the 13 pin plug leaks, often times the ATF wicks it's way all the way to the TCM. In that case it'll need to be removed from underneath the passenger side carpet and cleaned with isopropyl alcohol. After that you'll need to clear any codes stored on the tcm. The first thing I would do is pull the passenger side carped and check the wiring going into the tcm for atf oil.

Thank you for your reply it turns out that it is an EGS51.not EGS52.. I pulled the carpet out, Removed the box; its clean no ATF on the cable. on the box or inside it. (Also opened it up. It appears as new and PSU cap is not swollen). I have also noticed that the Tip works some of the time according to the Dashboard indicator and if I try to preset the gears for moving off and driving to 3rd or 4th it is still actually only in 2nd gear. In real time the scanner reveals shift position is operating but instructions don't appear to be controlling the solenoids in the Conductor plate?? Maybe it is the Conductor plate. Still no comms with the EGS unit. But a general scan shows P1817 Permanent Reverse Lamp:no supply at terminal 15.. I don't have a diagram.

VIN WDB2020262F905934
MB no: 20224400711 VDO
HARDWARE STATUS /33/99
SOFTWARE STATUS /34/98
DIAG IDENTITY 0/20

1. Does the EGS51 require reprogramming if indeed I buy a replacement.
2. Does anyone have any idea if the reversing lamp is in the same circuit that could affect the TCU?
3. Does anyone know where Terminal 15 is?
4. Where can I buy an OEM Conductor plate for this vehicle in the UK !

Many thanks in anticipation.
