Fan runs constantly
hello all, I am in dire need of help! My cooling system fan started running on high yesterday with the temps hovering at a balmy +10 F degrees yesterday. I have a couple questions....
1. Is it safe to drive like that?
2. What are the potential causes?
3. Quick fix suggestions as my closest dealer is 6 hours away.
It is a 2007 C280 4matic
appreciate the assurance and hope all have a great holiday

I have the same car and mine started doing the same thing today. I came home in my truck and the fan in my c280 was running. I started the engine and the fan quit. The fan started running again when I cut off the engine. The fan ran until the battery died. I hooked up the battery charger and the fan started running again. Need help

It can also be a problem with the temperature sensor on the M272 engine:

Check fuse (51) under the hood for the coolant blowing motor, change it and start the car again to see if this was your problem with the fan.

Im not sure if you can test this or not but if you can:
can you test if your AC will work or any sign of working? I know when my AC Condensor (in front of radiator) temp/pressure sensor was unplugged the fan would run on high regardless of anything. If your ac works still in any capacity, you can eliminate that. I am assuming your engine coolant temperature is checked already and accurate also?
You don't necessarily need to go to a dealer. If you have a scan tool or go to any mechanic in town they should be able to diagnose this pretty quickly
