Question Help with wheel decision

My original order of aftermarket 18's fell through due to time delays. I am considering either upgrading to the factory 7 spoke from the c7 package or the AMG wheels like the ones on the SLK. I would like to know what you guys think of either one? I would really like to stay with a MB factory type wheel.

All opinions considered thanks,

Benzo

how about the double/split spoke AMG from the C32 model? do you care about price?

I think the double split spoke resembles the 16 that comes with the car. I have been quoted prices for both wheels

the 7 spoke is about 2100 with Dunlop 9000's

The AMG is 1974.84 from Tire rack with Dunlop 9000's

the double spokes do sort of look like the standard wheels (at least conceptually) but w/out getting too designer-geekish, they are very different, imho. i didn't like them too much before i saw them in reality on a c32 and thats when i really thought how great they looked. really aggressive.

but, between the two you listed, i like the 7-spoke better. i like the thinner spokes and the blue laurel center caps. of course, it is a popular wheel if you care about that. the thicker spokes sort of bespeaks a more sedate vehicle to me.

I wish I could see the amg split spokes on a coupe. But oh well. Maybe some cutting and pasting and photoshop work and I can see it.

Get the C7 package wheels. The AMG's (not the split spoke ones) look too bulky..making your vehicle sluggish The thin spoke wheels are much easier to keep clean too!

I like the C7 wheels, but if you want AMG wheels I like the AMG five spoke 203's. They'd be a little cheaper than the 170's. and IMO look really good on a small black car.

IMO definitely do not go with the Mille Miglia wheels (did i spell that right?). You don't want a set of rims that can go on any car(ex.- a Honda Civic with those wheels). Go with MB exclusive wheels, look at Carlsson evos if you don't want to spend a lot of money for 18s.

Personally, I have an obsidian 230 with the c7 wheels, and I love em. This summer I might go with Eibach and 19s.
I'm young, and i am used to a harsh ride (old car- 99 Honda Accord Coupe Neuspeed race springs/225/40/18)
Fashion before function ... hahah...
It's crazy to think of doing these sort of things in NYC, but hey I have fun doing it. Who knows I might just leave it alone b/c the c7s are nice.

I think the C7 is much better than that AMG wheel on the Coupe.
The AMG is just a standard 5 spoke that you see on all Acura's, etc. etc. Just too plain for the little coupe, IMO.

The AMG wheels is a pretty nice looking wheel, but for the Coupe I think the C7 is still better.

Where can one get the AMG wheel, and how much does it cost?

Thanks.

Man, that is probably over $2000 by the time you add tires, tax, shipping, etc. That's 8% of the base price of the entire car!

Isn't is a MUCH better deal to get the C7 wheels for $700 when you buy the car?!?!?

it's a much better deal to purchase the package but they didn't have a car available at the time I needed to purchase. So I had to go with the base wheels. Which I just can't handle.

So I am willing to spend about 2k to get what I want. I already have put 1800 into the leather.

Hmm, that's too bad.

I do agree, those base wheels are *horrible.* The difference in the look of the car with Base and C7 wheels truly is night and day. For $700, that has got to be one of the best option values MB offers.

Wonder if you can, maybe 6 months from now, find some used C7 wheels? People will be crashing these cars, or upgrading the wheels, etc.

$1800 for leather and $2000 for wheels, that's a pretty expensive C230 you've got!

benzomonterey, you still trying to decide?? its a tough call. the C7 wheels looks great and the AMG double spoke wheel looks better in real life than in the pics. i especially like the way the spokes bend back into the wheel (its more angular than curved). if i were to classify them, the C7 is sort of classic aggressive, and the AMGs- sophisticated daring. get them both!!! if i were to choose, i'd get the AMGs b/c i don't want the same wheels as everyone else.

btw, when are you going to post pics of your your leather upgrade?

i like the carlsson 1/5s... it's a nice classic wheel...
and for the price you can't beat it...
especially when you can most likely find a set of 18s for the same price of amg or c7 17s...
you can find the 1/5s in 235/40/18 for at most 2100...
i think the right price is about 1800-1900...

I get my car back tomorrow from Classic Soft Trim. I will post pics tomorrow afternoon.

I have made a decision on the wheels also. I am not going to post a pic until they are on the car
