rear thumping noise
So recently my car started making a strange thumping/knocking noise from the rear but it only happens when the road is a bit rough and under acceleration.
if I remove my foot off the pedal it stops.
strangely enough it only does it when the road is just a bit rough and not on big bumps.
if I go over a sleeping policeman it wont do it.
it only seems to happen if I am driving along normally and a rough patch in the road appears.
any ideas of what it can be?

There is always a possibility for the rear subframe bushings to get worn/weak.. If you jack up the vehicle and do a visual inspection and find nothing, that would be my guess. Check for any signs of damage from external contact, broken coil spring or possible worn/torn bushings in one of the links back there. Also inspect for loose bolts, but they generally cause a squeaking noise.

The thing is this noise is only there when:
1. car is cold
2. you are stepping on the pedal when driving on bumpy road
I am going to try to replace little rubber exhaust mounts.

What I cannot understand is why it only does it when the road is just slightly bumpy, and not on big stuff like sleeping policemen.
and also, its when I have my foot on the accelerator pedal, I I remove my foot off the pedal it stops.
spoke to my mechanic, he thinks its one if the rear shocks, since it only does it under load.
not so sure myself, don't want to be spending money for nothing!
