Im kinda new to the MB ownership, but loving my 2001 C220 CDI Avantgarde Estate.
I wanted to ask you all regarding the cars's speakers, has anyone changed their from the standard speakers and if so, what to you use? Or are the standard speakers still better than anything aftermarket?
I ask as i have a speaker in the back door that is rattling soon as you turn any kind of bass on and its really annoying as the sound is exceptionally good in this car.
The tweeters seem to be fine, so u guess i am just looking at the main 4 door speakers to replace.
Please any advice on why you replaced yours? what with? and is it better than standard or not?
Many thanks before hand to you all, hopefully many long years to come of happy motoring as i do really like this car
You might need to pop the panel off to see what you are dealing with and what will fit. Some of the speakers have molded plastic cups that wont allow you to swap out the speakers as they are glued or just molded in. If it sounds great to you now, maybe try getting some of the stock replacements instead of aftermarket? If the latter you will surely spend more time fabbing them in vs just plug and play.
Anyway to find that in English? I thot I had a center speaker on the dash in my coupe. This shows I do. And where all the original stereo equipment used to be.
This is why i was asking you guys, this seems to have some quality name brand speakers, but i am not sure if they are good or not? I do like the fact that the original speakers a re paper coned.not plastic on new materials. perhaps i am still old school like that and can't move on. But then i use a valve amplifier at home for my music as well.
Do you for sure have the Bose system? If so it is next to impossible to change the speakers out as i think they are quite low impedance: 2 ohms..
but you should open the door and check. if it is 2 ohms then you cannot replace it with a standard 4 ohm. The amp output power will be half.
so if your speaker is rattling maybe just find a used replacement?
it will be hard to beat the bose system without redoing the entire system with a new amp and subwoofer, including changing the wiring and maybe even the head unit.
The HU sends the signal to the bose am via MOST fibre optic. There is no way to get into the signal without a expensive MOST to analog converter.
