C320 Coupe Sport 2003 Steering rack type?
Hi Folks, I had some one pull across in front of me not so long ago and write off my car on the front left corner. It was written off as it is 2003 and there were quite a few panels required. Bonnet/Hood, Left wing, Bumper, Headlight crash bar and the section that the bumper hangs upon which I managed to get second hand in the right colour for approx £280 although some parts will need a respray. The mechanical parts needed are inner outer tie rod ends and ball joint as well as the spring. So I have been fixing it up as it only has 60K on it and it was my fathers who died last March. So I kind of want to keep her alive.
So I have had all this work done but the steering is stiff. My garage believes this is due so some damage to the power steering rack itself after the impact that bent the tierods into an S shape. Now I can get this item for a reasonable price, again this will be salvaged. My issue is I'm having a difficulty finding out what the rack is, whether it is a Servotronic one or not, which other models racks are the same part number or fit the V6 C320 W203 Coupe.
I understand that this maybe looked up using the VIN which is WDB2037642A488816 Also have my eye on a rack with the part number A203 1 101 1 003 and am wondering if this is the correct part?
If anyone has any knowledge or the ability to look this up for me it would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance for any help
Jonnie

I'm sorry about your dad. :-(
The VIN that you posted:
failed to decode on the VIN decoder on this web-site
https://mbworld.org/forums/vindecoder.php
and at mbwholesalepartsonline.com

Maybe because those decoders only recognize American VINs?
Also, please add the country in your profile.
Maybe England?

Thanks RedGrey.
Yes, I tried some decoders and one came up with a sedan/saloon model so I guess it maybe a location thing. I'll have a look for a European decoder. I have also put my location details in now. Thanks for trying that out for me.
Thanks also Slammer111, The dealers here in the UK are a list;e tight lipped about the part numbers. I guess they think they are losing a sale. I'll give ringing a go though.
I am hoping that my garage can find the part number whilst they have the car on the ramp.
