Do you think 03' C230s will be improved over the 02' models
Hi Everyone,
With the rumored engine changes and any other refinements (i.e. better roof blinds, maybe a single cd unit in the dash), do you think the 03 model will be incrementally better/improved over this year.
I realize that the model transition is coming right around the corner and I would just like your guys opinions.
I know all the information on the boards is not totally concrete, but there is enough to substantiate these changes.

I would expect some minor tweaks and corrections to some of the new model engineering glitchs that have cropped up i.e smart key, mirror, wiring harnesses etc. With the huge investment MBZ put into the redesign and its popularity would not expect any big course changes.

It may come down to what you think "better" really is. I believe the new engine will have better gas mileage, but will produce less HP. Any kind of a standard CD unit would be better. Maybe they will incorporate the CD changer that they will be using in the new E class into the new Cs.

Agree-lot of pressure to start dialing back HP in favor of better mileage. The great majority of MBZ off the lot customers are not interested in "lighting up the tires", but rather strong, solid and reliable lux cruisers. AMG etc. will be around for those that want to add performance/power to the list.

I'm holding out for the 2003 models. Here's hoping for:
a DVD-based Nav system
longer seat travel (I'm 6'-4")
in dash CD
rear windshield wiper
fixes for all the quirky, misc. issues that have been discussed on this board.

I ordered my C230k less than two weeks ago. I thought about waiting, but decided against it. The only thing that would have made we wait would be a higher output engine. I called the MB 1-800 number and asked the customer service rep about the 2003s. He said that they had no information, but he did not see MB changing the engine until they redo the slk, so that is not until 2004, I think. Besides, I just couldn't imagine the summer without a panoramic sunroof!:p

Im selling my car next january and buying a 2003 stick shift. I think Ill get it black, manual, c5, Bose sound system. No c7 sicne im getting the BBS wheels.
Ill have to work a bit, but since im sacing a ****load of cash with the scholarships Ill do it, my dad said he would help. Then Ill customize my car a lot, Ill get custome leather too..
Will MB offer custom leather for 2003?, anyone got pics of aftermarket custom leather?

No carmaker will wait until a model year change to replace components used in production if they have been re-engineered before the model year change to address early production problems. This would be particularly true for serious problems such as the Smartkey.
For example, as you know, the early-type key units have been replaced some months ago on the production line, one hopes with less problematic units

Manufacturers make subtle changes throughout the model year. These are called running changes and are primarily made when a chronic problem is identified. It is entirely possible that some changes made for 2003 will exhibit problems also. You have to remember that when assembling any mechanical device with a few thousand pieces that chances are good that there will be some hits and misses. Perfection is an elusive goal that nobody can ever meet while making a vehicle affordable for mass production.
