MBTech - What do you techs do about creaking dash boards? Mine creaks when I drive over speed bumps and on rough surfaces. Can anything be done about this? My car is a W203 200K sedan by the way.

Thanks in advance!

Hey MBTech,

How does the W203 List compare to an W202 list when they came out ? I am suspecting the W202 was better.

Dave, thanks a lot! We all really appreciate this.

I would like to see the S-Class Tech Bulletin, if it's not too much trouble.

Thanks

Ok, I posted this link before but still think it belongs to this threads topic. Its a list with short descriptions on several problems (with references to tech-bulletins). It's pretty old but some of the service-records may still be valid.

Angry

Thanks once again to the person who posted the service bulletin list. I was worried that mine was the only one having oil consumption issues.

So far I have had the fogging windshield, the rattling headrest, and the oil consumption issue. Not on the list, I have also had the front driver seat replaced because it was loose (slid from side to side) and have had intermittent issues with the auto-down feature on the drivers window not working. My dealer has not yet figured out the oil consumption issue. It started warning me around 7k miles and they advised me to add oil if it needed it. Not something I think I should have to be doing! At 9k miles they tried to do an oil consumption test, but they missed part of the test so now I am waiting for the warning to come back again.

I took delivery in 9/01 so mine was probably one of the first ones produced. I have a 217 series key, but have not experienced any key-related issues yet.

My oil consumption has gone down dramatically. It now has 5300 miles on it, and it still shows the same on the dipstick as when I had to add oil at about 3600 (2 qts low). Hopefully, everything is seated now and that problem is taken care of.

Re: W203 C-Class tech bulletins

Was doing a search and just came across this thread...thought I'd send it back to the top of the post queue as it maybe useful to those guys who recently bought their w203 (although hopefully MB has rectified alot of these by now!)

50 times ??? Very Funny !! Also how would you "opening/closing 6", when "roof panel does not open or move" to begin with? Manually cranking the monkey wrench 50 times ???

Car Problems

ok, my ride is tripping out on me. first, the drivers side window wont go up after it is put down. the sunroof does not work for the horizontal positions but does work vertically. about 60% of the time the interior lights do not come on when i open the door and when this happens, the headlights dont come on in the AUTO mode, i have to switch them on manually. also, when this happens none of the interior lights work at all, i.e. rear seat lamps, map lights (the dashboard lights still work, though). the f****n' flip cupholder is broken. and finally there is a loiud ticking noise every time i turn the car off after driving it. its going into the shop this week and hopefully they can fix this b.s. anybody else having any of these problems??? any new tech updates???

C 320 Early Build

MB Tech, I sure appreicate your help in sharing the squauk sheet for the W 203.

My car had most all of the things you listed plus a brake pad /rotor change out to get rid of the sqealing brakes. The rear wiring harness had to be replaced to gain the remote satellite unlocking which was inop on the early builds. I'm still fighting electrical gremlins where the tail lights stay on regardless of the light switch postion.

I bought one of the first builds in Nov 2000 and can tell you this car is really a big disappointment. I paid 44K and had a boring but solid Toyota Avalon which only went in for two repairs in three years.

When the car is out of the shop, it is a delight to drive; solid as they come and I do feel safe in it. Mileage is averaging an honest 25.5 mpg for all types of driving. This car has loads of torque early on which makes me wonder how conservative the HP rating is.

Still I'm going to be happy to try something different as my lease is up in 12 months.

"Replace center grille with part number 203 830 11 18." Presumably, this updated vent has less chemicals in it which cause fogging on the windshield.

does this appy to the c230 only or is it for the c240/c320?

I am still trying to deal with the problem I have the car will sometimes go through 2 liters low in 1200 miles and then at other times it is fine... I have had the hardest time dealing with my service center with this one because I am constantly floating b etween 2 states it is very hard for me to return to the same shop exactly when they need me too, but in their defence with everything else the shop in NH has been great, can't say the same about the one in Manhattan though which is owned by MB itself, real dissapointing!

i had this taken care of in my car so it is applicable to the 230. the fogging was very obvious.
