W203 M272 Engine with P0016 P0017 codes
Hello,
I read the above dreaded codes recently and have read about the balance shaft, class action lawsuit, etc. I am more interested in getting the car to pass smog so I can keep it longer. What tricks can be performed to keep the CEL light off once I reset the CEL? I have read online that P0016 and P0017 does not illuminate the CEL. Is that due to newer software that has to be downloaded?
The value of a 2006 C230 does not warrant the $4k to $7k I read about to repair the balance shaft or to replace the engine. I am wondering if something simple like higher viscosity engine oil can give you enough margins.
