Digital Climate control

I posted this over on MBKlasse, but only seem to have gotten the response of someone with only 90 posts who wants to think he knows everything and treat me like a n00b.

Thru my searches on the forums over the past 6 months I've found that some have converted their cars using either kits purchased from SteveNL or via eBay. It also seems that the display/controllers purchased seem to hit or miss for people as far as working in their cars. It seems like kind of a hassle to order something from overseas that may not work in my car.

I think we can all agree on the above statements. Now my question is....

Has anyone tried this conversion by purchasing the parts from a US dealership, like say out of a same MY C320 and replacing their analog C230 controller?

If anything like MBKlasse... flame away

This is probably one of those topics you old timers hate being asked. I just can't find a firm answer.

There isn't an asnwer for you that you want to hear. Its hit or miss. Where do you think US stealers get there parts from? And ultimately where do those come from?

EDIT
Actually miroj seems to be pretty knowledgable. There is a lot more to the system than meets the eye. I would suggest you use this forum's fabulous feature again. That way you will read that there are an additional fan, etc that is controlled by the unit.

No, I hear you on that. Just if I order it on my own from SteveNL (even though he is a nice guy) it may be a hassle to return if even at all possible.

Maybe I'll stop by the dealer parts department and see what they say. I just didn't know if there was something different with the part Steve is selling compared to what I'd get at the dealer. It does not appear to be the case, so maybe I'll give it a try if the dealer will take the part back if it doesn't work.

Thanks!

I highly doubt that. Even if they did order you one special; be prepared for a possible restocking fee. Anyway you better make sure, just in case, you have a PN for them to order for you. Most go by VINs and have been known to question other PN orders.

OK, looks like this could be costly and involve a little dose of luck.

I'd rather just buy from Steve then.

Thanks!
