Question CD Changer Installation Info?

Anybody had any luck getting hold of the installation documentation mentioned by Forum member, Pete?? I'm thinking of going the www.autoclass.net route, but want to know the installation tips first. If anyone can shed light on doing the install, it will be very much appreciated. Thanks.

I have Mercedes-Benz' official installation instructions for the 203 CD changer in my toolbox at work. If I can remember, I'll make a copy and bring it home with me tomorrow.

Would be great to see those instructions. What is the best way to remove the necessary dash components and trim without damage? Having picked up the changer, cable and bracket, another $125 for pro installation is a minor drop in the bucket, but I would rather it were MY bucket! Thanks.

From MBworld.org user "Bill":

The place to find the CD Changer install info is:

http://www.leonoff.net/pages/slkpages/cdinstall.html

I'm doing the same thing, only have a buddy install it for me. Let me know how yous turnout.

A word of caution, since the cable that runs from the trunk to the radio computer is fibre optic it can easily be bent out of shape and damage the fibre. I'm told to be very careful when handling this cable.

The instructions above are for the SLK which is totally different. The way the radio comes out is very different in the C, the mounting location is different and the CD Changer is different. If I had an SLK I would probably change the radio to an in-dash CD. The C has a non standard shaped radio that is convex and hard to replace.

Buellwinkle is correct. Not much is the same except that it uses a fiber optics cable and even that is different. On the SLK, the fiber optics cable is already there from the head unit to the trunk; on a new C class, you have to buy the short fiber optics cable from the head unit to where it mounts in the glove box. SLK is a 10 minute install if you have the "keys" to take out the head unit. As I understand it, the C class is much more complicated (I have not done one yet).

Spoke with three Chicago area MB dealers and the service "advisors". Got estimates for installation only ranging from 1 hour to 3 hours labour. At $105 per hour (going rate here) that is up to $300. Will drive back to the original dealer for their low of $85 - 125 and see if I can get it covered under the original warranty as an add-on change.
