C230 Kompressor Electrical problem
Hi everyone,
I have a 2003 C230 Kompressor sedan. I am experiencing random electrical failure at startup. I have been searching around and can't seem to find an answer. So sometimes I start the car and everything works normally. Increasingly I start the car and some or all electrical does not work. For example, the fuel gage or rpm gage will not move, the turn signals will not work, the wipers will not work, the radio or windows will not work. Other times only a subset of these items will work. I cannot see any pattern.
After checking the battery, the tool suggested it be replaced. It was, with no positive effect on the problem. Checked the alternator (it was 13.9-14.1 ) and it appears ok. Also checked the voltage regulator and ignition without finding any problems.
Did find a lot of CAN errors - see attached screenshot. It seems my only alternative at this point is to pay for labor to trace down all the CAN connections to determine the underlying problem.
Anyone with experience or suggestions? At this point, I'm worried I'm just throwing money down the drain with no real plan.
Comments appreciated!
Time to look for water damage?
Does the car live outside? Has it been in a big rainstorm - or any other “clue” before this started?
Check front SAM.
Cowl drains.
Pull up inner and outer driver thresholds, door sills, kick plates and pull back (toward center console) carpet. A LOT of CAN and other connections in there.
