Steering wheel control help
Hi guys been searching over last few days but cant really get the info i require. I have a 2001 W203 C200 Kompressor (Australian spec) and recently upgraded the head unit to Kenwood DDX9018DABS which is a huge improvement over the piece of garbage Sony that was installed previously. According to my build sheet i originally had "Audio 10" installed but when i changed the headunit i noticed the previous owner/s have butchered the wiring loom and cut the plugs off (rather than using ISO harness grrrrr).
My question is ive managed to wire the head unit up which is fully functional but i cannot fathom how to get the steering wheel controls to work. Ive been researching Aerpro/Connects 2 etc but they all require the original plug to join into. The only connector i have left is the "A" with 2x wires left in it which i dont know what they control green/black and yellow. Attached is image i found online as reference to plug im mentioning.
Mine has the Yellow and Green/Black wires
Can any one help please?

If I were in your situation I would contact an auto recycling yard and ask if they could provide the original connector with wiring attached. I would then install it in the car to use as the foundation for a commercially available adapter. That may not help if the previous owner completely butchered the harness. The best case scenario is that enough of the original harness remains for you to return the harness to stock condition.
I installed an after market unit on my 2005 U.S. car. You can read about my experience starting at post 15 of this thread: https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...0-revival.html
I expect that due to the model year and market differences your car is not likely to be identical to mine. I hope this helps you to sort the problem.

The controls on the steering wheel for the stereo operate on a seperate network,
D2B Bus. It's optical. So maybe if you start looking in the right place vs
CAN you might get somewhere. Not being a smart ***, just providing the facts.
2005 on they went to whats called the MOST Bus.
Here's a couple articles I picked up over the years that might help.
Good luck!
Some old threads on installing a JVC head unit talk about programmable modules that tie into DB2 and allow you to program the
function of the steering wheel buttons.

My sincere apologies for leaving this so long, my life has taken a change in direction last few months so had been preoccupied with other things and forgot to upload this. Hopefully this helps other but if you dont have much experience soldering/wiring cars i strongly suggest you hire a professional. My install looks like a rough setup as it was i was testing things before permanently soldering everything together.
Ive uploaded a DOCX file for you to view hopefully everything is there, bar the main wiring to head unit (power/ground etc etc) which as i mentioned if you cant identify the wires seek the services of a professional.
Also this suits RHD Australian spec Merc your wiring may differ!

Thanks for posting that mate. Aussie W209er here.
Ahh, you used an ASWC-1. I've just started reading about them and Aerpro CHMC2C.
It seems like it's the only way to get SWC for our era cars.
Still not sure why my can bus decoder can't pick up the SWC but picks up when the doors are open or the car is in reverse.
I guess I need both!?!
Thanks again.

Ive used ASWC-1 in 2x different vehicles now and had good success with them, same as Aerpro. Only issue i have with mine is the seek up wont program. All other buttons work fine

Thanks mate, I might check out the Aeropro, looks easier to come by.
The other person posting said the SWC were over the D2B, I guess they aren't?
Do you have a can bus adaptor as well as the ASWC-1?

Right...thanks mate. I mean your setup makes perfect sense, but my can bus decoder should be able to do the SWC too, I just can't work out why it isn't.
It seems odd that I'd have to get the ASWC-1 as well, and hook up to the can bus again...driving me crazy.
I appreciate your replies mate!
