My left-hand mirror indicator has stopped working. I've taken the cover off and checked the light. It works. So I'm guessing it could be the wire has snapped inside the sheath. Any suggestions on how far back I should go with replacing the wires. Should I just go a few inches from the light or go to the other side of the door pillar? I'm guessing it might be trial and error.

It's usually in the bellow. It's a fatigue point of opening and closing the door.
