new alternator pulley binding?
Greetings, folks.
Received my new Bosch alternator per this thread.
Got it installed and started the car up only to get some smoke from the belt.
On inspection, I found that the alternator pulley was binding.
Removed the alternator and it spins just fine.
Seems to start to bind as I snug the bolts.
Thoughts?
I didn't see any washers and see no mention of them in any of the threads that I've found.
My sense is that the housing must be binding.
Faulty alternator?
Took the darn thing out/in 3 times tonight with no success.
And, of course, now I need a new serpentine belt.
I'd love any suggestions that come to mind.

Maybe this is it...
(from this thread)
First, when you bolt the alternator down, spin the pulley and make sure it isn't binding and stuck. For me, when I bolted the rear/upper bolt down, it would lock the pulley up so it would not spin. I had to unbolt the alternator and spin the alt 180 degrees and rebolt it back down. In other words, the top of the alt was now at the bottom, and the bottom was now at the top.
