Clickity-Clack Sound - Normal?

Alright, I just want to take a poll here - is the clickity-clack, almost sounds like a VW Bug, get's louder under acceleration, using too-low of an octane fuel sound normal for a C230? I have thus far assumed it had something to do with the supercharger, but I'm paranoid. The sound goes away at idle, but comes back as soon as I touch the gas. If it's normal, does it fade?

What Octane did you put in the car? Supercharged car's require 91 or higher octane to run properly without nocking. My Supercharged stang did that when i put in 89 Octane one time and never did it again after i added some octane boost to the tank. Also some times injectors make a clicking noise also. If your problem continues i would take it in. If the problem is still there than there could be internal problem with one of your pistons.

Ilker...

I'm using premium fuel, so I know it's not the valves. Valves also make more of a definitive sound. This sounds like it may be something else. Your suggestion of fuel injectors could be it.

Hi,

I had an irritating ticking sound from my engine and it turned out to be something like the fuel return actuator valve. I had this replaced and it sorted the problem out.

Cheers,

JZMD1 is right. Mercedes-Benz Dealer Technical Bulletin number P-B-47.25/14 says as follows

"If you encounter instances of ticking noises in model 203.061 or 203.064 coming from the purge valve, replace the mounting clip on the bracket for the purge valve with a new clip. The modified clip will be phased into production 07/01."

The part number for the new clip is 001 995 56 65
