Adjusting the rear bumper alignment

Hi guys,

After a bit of help with the rear bumper of my W203 C180 saloon. I suspect it has had a nudge at some point in its life - it belonged to a friend's father before me - and the rear bumper is misaligned. It's a bit high, such that when I close the trunk, the bottom edge of the trunk lid is in contact with the top edge of the bumper. So, I'd like to lower the bumper by a few mm to get the correct gap.

I've looked at the official MB instructions and it shows a couple of bolts which should be used to adjust the height - but I can't find them! I've got all the inner trim off etc, and I've tried loosening the main nuts (11) but there's no play in the height with this. (These nuts are inside the trunk, looking backwards)

Here's the pic of the adjustment bolt - can anyone tell me where to find them?!?!

The instructions say that this bolt can be used to move the bumper up and down to set the gap between the bumper and trunk lid correctly. But I can't see them anywhere!
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
MarkP

If I recall, you need to get it up in the air, or lay on your back and look up into the flanking corners.

Thanks for the feedback BF_J.
I did briefly get on my back, but the car wasn't on ramps. I'll have another go with the ramps and see if I have any more success. I certainly couldn't find these bolts anywhere inside the trunk, for sure.
I did wonder of the bumper needed to be off, but obviously that makes no sense as the idea is to use these bolts to adjust the gap, and it needs to be on to do that!

Cheers,
MarkP

It’s been a long while since I’ve retrofitted around there...you’ve taken the wheels off and removed the plastic covers and wheel well splash shields? Removed tail lights? You might have to remove exhaust donut bracket too...

- I actually hadn’t taken the plastic wheel arch liners out. I was figuring from the arrow on the diagram that these adjustment bolts were located much further towards the rear, which seemed where they should be in order to move the bumper up and down. Maybe I need to dig a bit deeper!
cheers,
Mark

Well, I've been in the trunk, under the car, had the lamp clusters out, you name it, and I'll be blowed if I can find these blummin' adjustment bolts! I can only conclude they don't exist!

I just swapped rear bumpers from my c280 and the donor car. I don’t recall any adjustment bolts anywhere. I’m wondering if the rear support bar isn’t pushed up somehow. On mine it simply bolted the new one on and made no adjustments.
