Number of C-Coupés in US
I’ve been tracking the C230K US sales since I ordered mine in 10/01. Here’s the data (from www.autosite.com):

The 3/5/01 AutoWeek article mentions a sales goal of 15,000/yr. If you extrapolate the sales rate from March/April you will be there in July; I think that is one year from the first sales. So someone in the MB forecasting department should be getting a star (probably 3 pointed). By comparison, the same article says the 318ti was canned here in ’99 because it did not attain the sales goal of 7000/yr. So by these measures, the C-Coupé seems to be a success.
However, just for perspective, Honda sold over 31,000 Accord coupés in April alone.

The figures do appear to be on track for MBs sales goals. Another thing to keep in mind is how well will the C-coupe will sell a couple of years down the road; and will it still be able to keep a healthy percentage of its intial sales? This will be the ultimate arbiter of success for the model.
