Rain sensor

My intermittent wipers have never worked on my 03 c230 sport coupe. In sure the IR sensors are dead, but buying a new module is stupid expensive. Does anyone offer a repair service?

$100 is "stupid expensive" for something that lasts 17 years?
Where do you live???

Or, buy used, and hope it lasts long enough.
Also, do you or the previous owner smoke? If so, don't expect it to last long.

For some reason the one in my car seems to be rare; the $100 version isn't right. More like $400. That puts it in the range of paying someone to fix, and I'm too fumble fingered with a soldering gun to do it myself

Just curious, what's actually broken about it? Didn't know these things were prone to failing.

Also why would smoking ruin the sensor?

From my past searches, the infra red emitters and sensors eventually die. My auto sending headlights still work but intermittent wipers don't. They can be replaced by someone with good soldering skills. I did find my sensor for $270, but that's a lot to pay if I discover the sensor really isn't the issue, and electrical parts usually aren't returnable.
