Mercedes C230 kompressor
DIY Motor mounts replacement

Hi Mercedes owners.
I am new to the forum. I don't know what to do so I came here for opinion. I have a mercedes C230 kompressor coupe, year 2002 and I want to replace 2 motor mounts and transmission mount. I already replaced the transmission mount, it was really piece of cake but now I have problems with motor mounts. I started with passenger side because everyone on this forum said that it's easier to replace than drivers side, but I hit the problem right a way. I can't even access upper bolt with wrench (with circular side of wrench) because the clearance on top of the bolt is to small. I think kompressor (supercharger) is on it's way. I wonder why nobody, that has the same motor, didn't have the same problem? Am I doing something wrong here? Does it mean that I have to remove supercharger first and than proceed? Is there any other way?

Thank you for all of your answers.

Hello and welcome,

There's already a thread on this here, but it goes a bit off topic. However there are some links there to the official workshop documents.

The official method is to remove the supercharger, but that's a lot of work and honestly quite foolish unless the supercharger is already coming out for another job.

The lazy/efficient method is with a 16mm offset wrench to reach the top bolts. Someone invented this tool specifically for the job.

16mm engine mount offset wrench

Many places sell this, such as Amazon or ECS Tuning (among others). My understanding is that for the W203, the bolt size is 16mm. They also sell a 17mm version but I believe those are for older cars such as W202. If you wish to wait, I actually have one on order, and will be able to confirm the correct size in a week or two.

Thank you for your answer slammer 111.

But I think I have an M111 motor in my 2002 C230. I saw this tool, but as I said there is not enough clearance between bolt head and supercharger housing, so I think this offset wrench wouldn't work either. I need to take a picture for better understanding maybe.

Any chance you can get away with using an open ended box wrench there? Might require a bit of fiddling.

Try an open end ratchet wrench. I have no experience with your set up, but it is worth a try. You have to turn it one way or the other and it may be hard to use this type to loosen it at first
