New car owner. 2007 C230 with M272 engine, questions about coolant

hello,

I'm new to cars, and yesterday my car's coolant thing came on, saying it was low. I checked and its about half full in the resivour. When I opened the cap and looked inside I could not see what color it was. Here are some pictures: https://ibb.co/D7PBNzF https://ibb.co/MskGbp5 https://ibb.co/FJy2SSc

I was told that I need blue coolant, and the one I purchased says its for Mercedes pre 2014. Though, I'm a little concerned that the original may not be blue. Is there any way for me to check? I read online that if it is a different type it will turn into gel and basically mess everything up.

Any advice on this would be appreciated, thank you!

Official MB approved coolant will not gel, even if the older (beige) and current (blue) stuff are mixed. They obviously thought of this beforehand. One of the reasons to only use official fluids. By sticking to the official stuff, one can also be sure that the additives between old and new do not cancel each other out. There is nothing wrong with the older beige stuff either. They just updated the formula somewhere along the way.

I drove around for years with a mixture of both after they discontinued the beige stuff. Can confirm that nothing bad happened, other than that the stuff I drained was green (beige + blue) when I did a full flush. Of course if you currently have non approved aftermarket stuff in there, then all bets are off, and a full drain and flush is worth the trouble for a few bucks.

When topping up, remember that the official MB coolant has to be diluted 50/50 with distilled water. Instructions will be on the jug.
