2006 c230 engine issue?
I'm considering buying a 2006 c230. It has ~150k miles on it and is a relatively clean car. Current owner just pumped some $ into it to get it smogged - smog pump replaced and a couple other things he mentioned. While Googling, I read that the early v engines in these (m272?) have an expensive failure related to a balance shaft needing to be replaced requiring the engine to be pulled? I'd like to confirm/deny here? VIN is WDBRF52H16A910246 - can someone tell me if this engine is in the affected range?

VIN definitely puts it in the affected range. Engine # is 30 373387, affected range goes up to..30 468993

No check engine light. He's waiting for the EVAP and one other emissions cycle to clear to take it in for smog check. He's been driving it daily and it has ~165K miles on it now. Rides solid and everything works. What you guys think? Pass? He wants $3800.

I'd want to see some kind of verification that the balance shaft issue had been addressed (invoice, carfax, etc.) before making any offer. I'm sure plenty of these engines were addressed when the cars had more value. In this day and age, greasemonkey is spot on.
