MASSIVE android headunit mod for W203/W209/W211 series!
If you guys have an android head unit installed in your Mercedes, I'd happily recommend a huge project I've been working on.
In short, using an Arduino to connect to CANBUS of the car gives me unlimited read/write access to canbus, meaning i can control loads of features on our vehicles.
The installation itself isn't too hard, and gives you so much more customization for the headunit. Preview of the home page UI
If your interested about running the application on your headunit, go ahead and go to the source code
NOTE: This interface also allows you to turn the car into a controller to play DOOM
I am open to suggestions / new additions to the interface. If you have any, feel free to submit an issue ticket on the Github repository, or comment below.
This is a cool project and I would love to put a similar setup in my w203 and w211 but I'm still hesitant to pull the trigger on an android head unit. Which android head unit do you recommend? I've read some really bad reviews.
Since I'm never really using the OS, and am 100% in my own app, I really don't have a second opinion on it, it works as intended, and I improve my own UI
Although, my only issue I have is that sometimes bluetooth doesn't work after the headunit is powered on...Its a power management thing and I do intend to fix it in software to force the MCU unit to wake the BT Module up
'Wine' (emulator for windows apps) now works on android/arm, so in theory you could add quake 1 / 2 / 3 to your project. Or anything else of interest from this list here https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/d...#post-36534446
This was a festive addition to the project. It basically allows you to load up a BeatSaber level on the headunit, then it will control the front SAM module to flash the front lights in sync with the music! - Why buy a Tesla when a 14 year old Merc is capable of doing this with a couple software tweaks
