No... I can rev till the red line on neutral. It will stop at 3000 if the car is on Drive and u have one foot on the brake and the other one on the gas.

is that bad?

Do it and see if MB warranties the tranny for you after they look at the ECU to see what caused it! These cars do have data recorders so the manufacturer can see what happened! As well as the fact that the tranny will go back to MB in Germany for a thourough looking at to find the problem and it is not too hard to figure out what happened when the tranny is in all sorts of pieces inside it! I have no problem spinning my tires if I want without needing to drop the clutch from a high RPM range. Just starting out normal and flooring it will smoke mine just fine! Don't be a moron and ruin a perfectly good tranny to see some smoke. Turn off ESP floor it with the brakes depressed, then release them and the tires should spin somewhat, if you really wanted to smoke them you should have got a standard shift! The auto tranny and drive-by-wire throttle will stop a power brake due to design, as it is not needed in everyday driving ever!

i wouldn't suggest doing that.....if it's bad to shift into neutral while driving, i highly doubt it's not just as bad to shift into drive while flooring it in neutral haha.
also, i dunno about your car, but my car has a rev limiter so i can't rev beyond around 4000 rpms in neutral, as other people were indicating as well.
i'd say: if you really want to spin your tires, i think you can wait a year for your 350z and not risk damaging your current benz. or, even better, buy a higher output benz or AMG vehicle...at least to me, i rather drive a faster benz than a 350z.

I say do it, and let me know what parts you want to sell, when your car is totally destroyed.
Do you have factory Bi-Xenons ?
Clear fog lamps ?
Power seats ?

not a good idea unless you want to shred apart your tranny gears.
I learned my lesson on my 1991 190E (first car).. Did redline Drive drops.. Shredded the gears.. Spent that whole summer working my *** off to pay for the tranny repairs. My parents almost killed me.. I was 16..

Where I grew up, this is called a "Neutral Drop". It's a very quick way to ruin a transmission. If you REALLY want to spin the tires, then just hold the break down just enough to hold the car still while flooring the gas (I'm not even sure if this will work in an MB). Again, I wouldn't recommend doing either of these things as they will take their toll on your car. But if you don't care, then go for it.....
As far as the rev limiter, I'm not sure what location "OIL CHANGE" is in, but if he is outside the US, the rev limiter might not be the same as ours.

I've tried it once, rev to 4k RPM, then drop the tranny. ESP caught it and I didn't really go anywhere. Once the revs dropped down to about 1k the car took off normally. Even the magazines that reviewed this car said that the best times on the auto were obtained just by straight flooring it off the line. If you just want to do smoky burnouts, just do the "stand on brake AND gas" trick, that'll give you more than enough tire-burning satisfaction. N-drops are stupid (I admit it), but even more so they do jack squat in our cars.
PS - What model/year car do you have? I know that the previous-gen trannies (without the "tip-tronic") were a lot less restrictive on this sort of activity. My friend was telling me how you could initiate shift-lock drifts on an automatic SLK by dropping the shifter from D to 2 while going at speed.

well, first... I'm not thinking of doing the "Neutral Drop" any more :p
I only thought about it cuz i found its impossible to rev the car while I'm stepping on the brake on D... which is something most people in this topic told me to do to get the result that I want.
I have a 2002 C coupe compressor by the way.
