Interesting comment. This is particularly interesting when you consider the fact that I have yet to find one good review from a reputable source. Take a look at the review from Edmunds, for example:

Inside, each X-Type comes with leather upholstery and real wood trim, but if you start adding options like a decent sound system, the Sport Package or a moonroof, the price goes up quickly. Additionally, the quality of the materials in the cabin isn't up to the standards set by the Audi A4 and BMW 3 Series and matched by the Acura TSX and Lexus ES 330. The cabin offers a decent amount of room for four adults, though tight rear door openings can make hard to get in and out. The trunk, at least, offers a generous capacity of 16 cubic feet.

The competition in the entry-level luxury sedan segment has only gotten tougher since the X-Type debuted in 2002. Most of its peers, both import and domestic, surpass it in all the important areas -- engine performance, driving dynamics and cabin accommodations -- while matching (or even beating) the Jag on price. Apparently realizing this, Jaguar has dropped the base price of the 3.0 model this year, but we doubt that will be enough make up any serious ground in segment sales.

Get the TL and save yourself 8 grand or so to short some Google stocks

I would suggest G35x, but given your terrible experience with Infiniti it wouldn't do justice to steer u back into that route. Hence, my answer would be the c320 4 matic. It's better in the snow that the RWD BMW and has more grunt, and it's a better car than the FWD TL. The TL is a bigger bang for the buck, but if 42 is your budget get the MB.

I always like the G35 too, but after test driving the 05 C and the G35 back to back that day made me realize the G35 interior is very very bad other than the comfortable seats.

as far as the X-type goes. They drive far better than they look and the recent interior has been improved on material and finish also.

Perfectly put...my thoughts exactly. I've seen it in plenty of colors during my drive to Monterey this weekend...the only color that caused me to linger was the black one...

Same goes for the C230k...I looks like it cost twice as much on in black/black.

I have had the displeasure of driving one. Either things have changed drastically in the last two years, or you have a very unique experience.

LOL...two years

I wonder what year is your CLK320. My sis has a 2000 and it's completly different than another friend's 2002 CLK320. The 2002 feels tighter through turns and a lot more quieter on the road.

Meh, my car is being sold as we speak. I will purchase either a 2004 CLK320, or a 2004 325i Manual.

i think things have drastically improved

I do remember reading about the pre 04's and there problems but the 04s and up have much improved and the 05's are going to be even better there will be a true sport (not just one with wheels) and there is going to be a vdp model. If you go test a new one im sure you would find a big. dif.
