2005 C230 Kompressor
Rat chewed through hose

Hi,

I have a 2005 C230 Kompressor. I recently opened up my hood and found what looks like a chewed through insulation area as well as broken off hose. Refer to photos. Could someone tell me what the hose is for and whether I can drive my car to get a repair (or perhaps I can repair it myself?). I'm not sure if I have driven this car after this happened.

Also, are there other areas I should check for this kind of damage?

The hose in question connects the valve cover to the intake. Dealer calls it a breather hose. See this link for reference. The PN for the hose is 271-016-04-81. You'll have to remove the airbox to get to it. Not terribly difficult, though you'll need a specific hose clamp tool. Good way to learn how your engine works.

Sucks that the rat also got the engine cover. Dealer will have the PN for that. Just give them the VIN and they can tell you every single part that went into your car.
