A Sour Lemon

well the problems continue. My car has been in the service dept. for 8 days now and I was just informed today that my car, will need 4 new tires aside from the new power window motor they just put in on the passenger door. The service advisor and foreman are not happy with the way my car is driving and they found vibration in the suspension to be a set of bad tires-AT ONLY 5 MONTHS AND 10,000 MILES OF OWNERSHIP 4 NEW TIRES!!!!!!!!!!!!. I was advised that he my service advisor is trying to get mercedes to replace all 4 tires. THis is plain bulls**t with this car already. In 5months I've had the two front rotors and pads replaced, the driver and passenger window motors replaced, the fuel pump once and the 2 fuel level sensors twice, the fuel gage (Actual Gage), alignment, broken headrest clip, BAS/ESP failure, hydraulic leak, and some unremembered name of a sensor that caused for thecar to quit running in the middle of the highway and now 4 new tires-Hey Mercedes better get their sh*t together or they are going to start getting a line of PO'd customers demanding their money back. Just thought I'd share this info. with you guys, already planning on trading it in on something else.

This is normal for MB, get used to it. I've had 4 MBs and they still can't make a reliable car. The cars are great and fairly trouble free once yout get past the first year and get all the silly little problems worked out. They must do it on purpose to show off their good service. Don't believe BS about your car breaking down more often because it's the cheap model, they all break just as much.

Your car was probably built during Oktoberfest or some other such holiday where Germans get together in their lederhosen to drink lots of beer.

Happy Muttertag!

Buellie,

Only those of us that are unlucky! Guess we are lemons in a tree together. At least it's good company.

Hey, why did you buy another MB. I would never buy another VW?

My expectations were low so I'm not as dissapointed as Black230.

The last MB lemon was in 1984. After 18 years I gave MB the benefit of the doubt since my buddy's 2001 C320 has been flawless in it's 6 months. Boy was I wrong! I still love the car and believe that once you get past the 1st year hurdle it will be OK.

So are you close to a lemon law suit? I called my lawyer on Friday. I plan on filing next week. I'm going to get another c230k and want to do European Delivery. But then sometimes I think a Acura sounds like a better idea.

I get my car back today because the sun roof was whisteling. Fixed...I cant believe it. Took 4 days. Ok Parts but here is the topper. They instal the licence plate on the front and it is crooked. If they cant install a licence plate .....what in the hell are they doing ? I am so disapointed. Oh yes they replaced my seat cover with one that had a hole in it. Quality???? Can some one send me a hope and a prayer??? I thought I bought a Mercedes ?

I can honestly say that once all the problems are filtered out, the warranty will be expired or I will have additional ones. This is not the first Mercedes in my household. We have an '99 SLK, '85 500 SL AMG, '89 260 E, '91 500 SL and '03 SL 500 all bought new and my Audi has been completely trouble free for 4 months now and my previous 2001 S4 was a great car. We have had problems with all of the Mercedes' in the house but no where near the extent of this C230 Coupe let alone in 5months.

I must be lucky. Bought my car last October, now have 5,000 miles, no problems. It's still drives like the first day I drove it. On the other hand, I've owned Volvo's for the past 20 years and have been pleased with few problems. One would think, with the quality of build in todays foreign cars, that we should have very few problems, or there vendors quality has gone done. Your MB dealership has a lot to do with keeping your car trouble free, have noticed good and bad support. Hope you get your problems worked out, it still a great car to have.

I've test driven many cars in our size/price range on a test track setup by Lexus and I can tell you the Acura TL was one of the worst cars I've driven. The seats are uncomfortable, the suspension skips out over rough pavement, the engine, although rated at mucho HP is not that responsive feeling, the auto trans shifted slowly and the sound insulation was marginal. If you want comfortable Jap reliability stick with Lexus, they are the MB of Japan. Personally I would look at the Audi A4 and Jag-X, these weren't available when I got my coupe. I really liked the Subie WRX when I drove it but it's hard to shake the bottom of the line Corrolla/Civic/Impressa feeling. I've driven the BMW 325 at the track but I wasn't impressed. I read all the magazine articles about how wonderful it is but side by side test comparison on a track with the C320, there was no comparison. The BMW was noisier, didn't handle as well (the sport package would fix that), the interior material looked cheap and spartan and just didn't live up to the hype. The car that impressed the most was the baby Lincoln, unfortunately I'm not old enough to drive one.

One thing I noticed amoung people I work with and friends. MB owners usually come back and buy MBs again, Audio owners usually come back and buy Audis again, same with Volvo. What's strange is not many BMW or Jaguar owners come back to their brands.

I've had my '01 benz for a year and 8 months and all I've had done is the driver's side window motor replaced. So far it's been a perfect car and I wouldn't trade it for the world. (not even for the '02 bmw 330ci ) and Buellwinkle, are you talking about the Lincoln LS? You are never too young to drive a car you like. A friend of mine is only 16 and drives one.

Now that has to look like a 16 year old driving his father's car.

Bullie,

That was a interesting responce. I really liked the way the RSX shifted. That gear box was so much fun to drive, but I just could not see myself in a boy racer car, plus the insurance on that car is outragous.

You make a good point on the Lexus, I'm just not ready to drive a car that both my parnets drive (unless it's that little two seater rag top, but I think I need to buy lottery tickets).

Funny you say that because when I got my first car, my father insisted on picking it out even though I was paying for it. It was a 4 door green Chevy Belair with bench vinyl seats. I hated it and couldn't wait to get rid of it. I can't imaging any kid wanting an LS no matter how good of a car it is. I see a lot of cars in the high school student parking lot, but I have never seen a late model Lincoln or Caddy there. The coolest car on the lot is Steve Saleen's daughter's Mustang.

Yeah, what's the deal with the price of that car? Most people are shocked to find out that car costs about $65-70K - they are under the impression that it's around $40K - I guess because it's seen more as an SLK/Boxster competitor.
