yes the CD slot on all COMAND units play CD's. the 05 units will still perform navi functions since the navi is controled thru DVD not CD ubline the COMAND 2.0

is it the software, or is it a newer 2.0 COMAND hardware upgrade in the 2004's ???
Installing EURO COMAND at end of this month, and want to ensure I get the lastest version (if hardware was upgraded).

no. i have the 2004 CD and its the same. it only updates the roads, any new highways etc, if locations such as gas stations, parking lots, etc have changed, anynew phone numbers and so on. the detail has not changed at all from the 2002 CD
