Tires for a 2005 C230 Sport Sedan

The Michelin Pilot Sport AS-3 tires on my C230 have been on the car for 24,000 miles. The warranty is for 45,000 miles, but Michelin cuts that in half because the tires cannot be rotated. As the measurements in the following pictures show, the tread is nearing the end of its useful life and I'm planning to buy replacements in the next two weeks or less.

Yellow near the middle

Red on the edge

The last set of Michelins I purchased were about $650 installed at Costco and I believe tires have been one of the products that experienced price increases during the pandemic. I am looking at options and one that seems to make sense is the General G-MAX AS-05. The review in Consumer Reports states, "This General ultra-high-performance all-season tire is solid all-around, delivering excellent dry-stopping performance in CR's tests as well as decent wet and winter grip. It also offers low tread noise and relatively long tread life." The G-MAX had the same overall score as the Michelin AS-3, but there were variations in their performance in several categories. Based on some preliminary price checks, it appears that I could buy a set of the Generals for about $160 less than the Michelins.

Does anyone have experience with the General G-MAX AS-05 or have recommendations for another make or model of tire?

Kevin,
Check out TireRack website or google "tire rack uhp all season", they have a bunch of reviews and user feedback tables.

Weird that your front tires wore so fast. Typically folks replace 2x rear pairs for 1x front pair.

Don't know about Generals, see if they are represented on tire rack.
Continental DWS are good tires, loved on this forum, but I think the rears lasted me some 22k miles before wearing to zero 32nds. (which I neither recommend nor advise against, especially if your inspection is not due for a few months )
Continental DW wore out even faster for me (but the fronts lasted a good 40k miles).
I used Nitto Motivo for about 15k miles, when new they were fine, as they wore the wet traction got noticeably worse in the rear. That said, for relaxed driving no complaints on cost/benefit.

Thanks for the replies. I bought a set of General G-MAX AS-05's. The total cost was $596 at Discount Tire. It would have been about $15 less if I had bought them at Tire Rack and paid to have them installed at AAA.

I'll report on them when I have some experience with them. Consumer Reports indicated that they were slightly more durable than the Michelins.

Are you sure about this? My fronts wear the quickest at the outer edges. The edges can be bald and showing bands before the middle reaches the wear bars. Stock alignment. Had this problem for years.
