If you get the chance, I, for one, would appreciate the step by step thread you were writing about.

Well here's a picture of my AUX line i rerouted it behind the center command console and put the input right by the ashtray. Personally I didn't like the AUX cord all over my passenger seat of my car. Overall I think it looks cleaner. If enough people request for pictures and step by step instructions i'll eventually post a thread.

I was wondering if anyone who had done this mod and tried a bluetooth receiver could let us know how it worked for them?
Also, I know everyone on here has been saying that the 3.5mm jack will only transmit audio, and not phone, but why is that? It seems to me that a bluetooth receiver plugged into the 3.5mm jack, should transmit audio (music) from a phone AND transmit audio (conversation) from a phone.
How about a system like ?
Routing power from cig lighter to receiver location would be doable; I know others posted how-to's and different routing options. And what's the difference between phone calls going through a 3.5mm jack wired into a head unit and phone calls going through headphones? Is there a specific reason that a head unit would not play audio from a phone call through an AUX connection?

Audio includes phone. Anything you push through the 3.5mm jack will work when in the AUX INPUT mode on the head unit. What people most likely mean is that it doesn't integrate into the car's phone system or steering wheel controls like other kits can do. So you can't change tracks or answer calls via the steering wheels controls, etc.

Just got a nice used R500 w/AMG package - a friend had it and was always serviced and taken care of. My question being new with the Aux plug in the glove box / right side - this is on the left side of my ML350 and will operate my iphone music thru the connection with an aux cable. But on the R500 the same cable will not work the music on the iphone.. ?!? Any ideas as to why?

There are a ton of postings on this topic, but I'm not quite finding and answer to my situation. I have a 2006 C280 4Matic with the 6 CD Changer in the glove box. Is it possible to do a DIY conversion so that I can use my iPod/iPhone AND control with the steering wheel controls? I checked and although I see the cable into the console, there's no cradle installed to use Bluetooth...plus that appears to be a very expensive approach. I'm pretty adept at DIY projects if I have directions, but if this is something a BestBuy could do, would appreciate finding out Thanks!

theres no way to use the AUX input and control it by steering wheel. you'll either have to buy a bluetooth handset like the Motorola T505 and play your car system through the radio or get an aftermarket HU and then buy a Axxess ASWC to keep your steering control and control your ipod/iphone.

Setting up the AUX input per the original instructions!!
I followed sawloo's instructions - they worked exactly how he's described them. 45 minutes later, and no cuts or bruises later, I have an aux input in my car! sawloo - Thank you!!! Forum members: Thank you!
For those who are still planning to do install the aux input cable, the cable price has gone up - I paid approx. $65 for the part.

I use a cassette tape-to-AUX and it works great. You have to arrange the cord right so it isn't stuck next to the radio button, and I changed the options(treble, bass, etc) so it sounds the same as the 6 CD changer. For some reason it sounded god awful when I 1st put it in...
I can control the volume using the steering wheel buttons, but of course I can't skip a song using them; I have to use my phone to skip a song.
Plus you can use pandora or youtube on it

My thanks to SAWLOO and all the others who have come up with ingenious and inexpensive solutions to use the AUX input.
I ordered part # A 210 440 50 50. The RMB Atlanta dealer was charging $86.49 without shipping. I got it from Getthemercedesparts dot com for $38.25 plus shipping and handling for a total of $40.25.
I opted for the simplest installation possible. I lifted off the passenger door sill with my fingers, uncovered and screwed the phillips head (not torx in my car) screw in the A pillar, lifted out the door gasket running up the A pillar and got the A pillar cover off. The white connector was visible just forward of the door jam. Note that the wires are in a plastic chase that has to be opened. I connected the MB cable harness to the white connector (it didn't look like the right part, but it was -- look at the spade orientation) and threaded it backwards in the chase to a point where the chase left room at the top to not cut into the cable as I brought the cable behind the front passenger seat. I tested the connection with an iphone and the LR balance (after getting AUX IN active from pressing CDC). I then closed the chase, and reinstalled the A pillar cover and door sill cover. I lined up the the door sill cover exactly with the existing indentation on the carpet and gasket. It does not fit as perfectly snugly, but its not going anywhere.
I then used two ties to attach the MB cable under the rear-most metal chassis piece of the passenger seat so that the AUX cable miniplug jack was fixed in place facing rear. I had way too much male-male miniplug left. 1.5 feet is all that is needed to reach the cupholder area.
I use a FiiO L 11 Line Out Dock ($9.75 from Amazon) to connect to the iPhone to avoid the volume drop and, I believe, improve the sound. I may use velcro to hold the FiiO connector in place when I take the iPhone from the car.
The sound quality are as good as playing a CD. Any limitations are due to the speakers, which are a little old, but not blown, and the design of the system itself. Toying with the idea of changing the speakers, but don't know if it's worth it.
One more note. I considered soldering wires directly to the white connector as some have suggested, but with my limited skills with solder I'm glad I got the MB harness. There's not much space to work in to test the spade pins and you have to be good with a soldering iron.
Again, thanks to all for contributing to this and other threads on the AUX IN.

Part number changed
Great tutorial!!!
By the way, as of Jan 2013 the part number for W203 has changed to A 210 440 50 05.
MB dealer in Chicago told me that - I just installed above part today and it works great.

I have a 2006 c280 4matic and I've bought the suggested mercedes aux input cable to install. After following some of the instructions I'm not finding the appropriate white plug to plug it into. I've opened up the passenger door sill and all I see are a blue and black input that are already used. Would the white input be somewhere else?
#793
should be either in the door sill or the kick panel... did you see if your car can do the input. try holding the cdc button down and see if the input comes up on the screen.
#794
The input does appear when I hold down CDC. However I'm not seeing the plug in the door sill or kick panel. Is it possible that its somewhere else?
#795
Not really because it runs with the other lines on the harness. Maybe its a different color but its tucked away sometimes
#796
Thanks for the help. I'm going to have to dig around again and see if I find it hidden away anywhere. I looked all over the place and could only find the black and blue ones, which, were already being used.
#797
Although I don't have the 4 Matic, I sugest you look for the white plug forward of the door sill, in the tangle of wires under the A pillar. Once you take the A pillar cover off, shine flashlight in there as you move wires around to locate the white plug. Good luck.

I took the dive and installed the aux port myself. I'm not big on hardware stuff, especially car related, but thanks to the original poster, I got it all installed and sounds great! The volume is a little lower than the CD's but not enough to really make a difference.
Thanks for your help on this!

Ouch... I just called the stealership and the price they were asking for was around 80 bucks!
Anyone know of a website for the harness at a cheaper price? I tried to use one of the mentioned sites but it was coming up with an error.
Thanks!
