I read in an article that mercedes would stop making kompressor engines because they believed turbo charge technology was superior, so I guess it's true MB won't be making c230k after this year. Maybe they are gonna produce c230t next year

-----------------
Mercedes to drop Kompressor supercharger technology in favor of turbos

STUTTGART -- Mercedes-Benz will drop supercharged Kompressor gasoline-powered engines from its lineup in favor of turbochargers.

Mercedes will add a turbocharged 2.0-liter gasoline engine for the A Class subcompact that debuts in Europe this autumn.

"Turbochargers are superior to superchargers in terms of noise and cost," said Juergen Frey, head of engine development for the A class. "When we introduced the supercharged engines it was the right decision. Turbocharging has greatly improved in the meantime, and we have virtually no turbo lag anymore."

Yeah, MB can't not have a $30K sedan. If they killed C230 and only had a $38K C320, they'd lose a lot of first time buyers to A4 and 325i.

I'm looking forward to the W204 AMG as well. That should be a sweet car.

If anyone had pics other than the ones you can find by using Search, don't you think they would have posted them already??

They have a bunch of new V-6 engines coming out in the summer and fall of next year. The smallest will be a 200hp 2.3 V-6 24V engine! They will most likely not bring that to the US hoepfully and have a 220hp+ for the base model but who knows! It was in the latest Mercedes Magazine that I saw the confirmation the Coupe was gone in the US as well as Car and Driver two months ago. The C230K sedan is only sold in North America and that will most likely get axed since they are going to NA engines in the future! Maybe a few Turbo'ed ones but they will eventually die as well. Even the twin-turbo V-12 is going to be NA in due time, bored up to 6.3 liters as well as having 500 hp or more output!

I just bought my 2005 C230 Sedan and one of the things that I liked about it was the fact that this engine has been around since 1997. I had it in my '98 SLK230 and I'm sure they've perfected it in all those years ( I can only hope, anyway).

Like all cars, the first model ALWAYS has it's quirks, like mine in '98, and since this C230 body and engine has been around for a while, for me and my peace of mind, it was the best bet.

Oh well, at least that's the way I see it.

I believe the '98 SLK230's engine was the older 2.3L whereas the 2005 C230 uses a 1.8L engine.

2-3 years ? I remember reading somewhere that some/most of the 2002's has 2.3L engines.

2.3L (M111) were in the 2002. 1.8L (M271) were intorduced in 2003.

I guess the 230 designation has been around since 1997, but the engine (1.8L) on the C230K has only been around since 2003. Hmmm....

so can anyone verify, that indeed the 1.8L engine is going away ?
Is that why so many TUNERS are staying away from 1.8L mods and kits ?

interesting developments....

well the SLK230's (R170) were still the M111 engine until 2004.

Well just because they are dropping Kompressor and going to turbocharging doesn't mean the C230 will go away. They'll probably drop the "Kompressor" moniker and then perhaps change the name to maybe C250 or something.

But I don't think they're going to abandon the C230K's pricepoint at $30K. It'll just be replaced by a new C class with a slightly higher number, would be my guess.

most likely it will say Turbo rather than Kompressor if they are going that way. Just as the CL65 and SL65 say V12 Bi-Turbo on the fenders. If the new engine is Turbo it will more than likely say Turbo I would think.

I've read that "Kompressor" is actually the German translation of "supercharger", so I would imagine that if the new engines aren't supercharged, they won't be called "Kompressor".

Kompressor is Supercharger, thats why i said if the engines become turbo charged then they will more than likely say Turbo on the car. Just like the CL65 and SL65 say V12 Bi-Turbo.

I'm said to say it, because I love the way BMW has progressed with their styling over the years but that's the truth. The E90 won't be available in the US until next Fall at the earliest.

Audi is doing a revision of the A4, you should check it out. It will be available with the DSG transmission, which is amazing! And your wife will be happy with it as well.
the c230k had more power than the 325 and take it from me after taking on my brother in his 325ci the c230k is much faster.... the 325 may pull hard but it is def. not fast

What part of they are going to put a 2.3L V-6 did you not get? I could care less what they name it, I was stating that the C230K will be gone, as in the K for Kompressor!
