H/K Sound System on my 05 is DEAD!

I had a post on where my car's audio system died. But then after parking it for the night, it was all good in the morning... Well, it happened again today, and after I parked it for at least 8 hours, it STILL wasn't working. My sound system is now dead.

Here is what's happening from my previous post

"The radio display is there, the CD display is there, but there is absolutely no sound. When I press the CD Changer button, it now tells me "No CDC". It also sounds like the CD changer is just cycling through discs too. As for the in-dash single CD, it seems like it is playing the disc (complete with times and all), but just with no sound. Also, when I press the sound settings (the one that takes you to Bass/Treble/Surround/Standard/Speech), it no longer gives me the option of changing it to surround, standard, or speech. I have no clue what's going on."

I brought it to my dealer today to have them look at it, the service manager confirmed the symptoms and problems, but couldn't work on it b/c it was too late in the day. Hopefully it'll get worked out next week when they replace my armrest...

BTW, here's the link to the previous post: https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w203/79623-after-two-weeks-my-h-k-sound-system-broken.html

let me know what your problem is cause my cd changer acts up all the time. It will say that there is not cd changer or that the magazine is empty or say that there is no cd when there are cd's in the slots. keep us posted
Thanks

backlog on H/K parts... kinda confirms all the problems people have been having with the H/K sound system, since MB replaced the BOSE system.

Funny, how BMW owners always said that H/K just plain sucked, and now MB went with H/K. Cutting costs again, at the expense of the consumer ?
Who pays in the end ?

Sounds like a dead optical link or a malfunction in the audio gateway. The delay in parts is probably caused by the unlikely demand for the item, given that if it were a common problem then the parts would be carried locally in the country of sale.

That makes sense, and you would think that would be the case, but there are plenty of instances, even as far as when a TSB has been issued by MB, for a particular problem that is widespread, and still every single time, someone goes in to repair a "known" problem, the part takes weeks to arrive from Germany. I wish I had the specifics to list, but I've read them all on these forums somewhere. Time & time again. Hopefully MB will get smart on these H/K issues that are arising, and maybe even read these forums to get a jump on the potential stocking problems.

Not trying to sound funny here, but did you press the MUTE button ? There is one in the '05 you know.

Hey, after my experiences with the dealer not knowing many things, it won't hurt to try.

Hmm... Lets see... Of course I did! Would the other issues such as the "Phone Off" or not being able to select a sound mode (surround/standard/speech) or "No CDC" be affected by something such as pressing mute? I'm sorry for the sarcastic response; but I'm sorry, that was almost like an insult...

The ******* started working again today... (After not working for 2 days, it magically comes back to life.) I called my dealer, and they had me talk to the shop forman and he said that there's something definitely wrong, they'll be checking the codes on Friday when they also replace my armrest. The forman said that everything is connected in a ring network, so that when one thing goes down, everything else does as well... Real smart.

I think my car knows when it's being taken to the dealer, b/c when I do intend to take it, it goes away...

Sorry, but if you read my posts, I'm not a kid trying to be funny and I don't post insults here or anywhere. You'd be amazed at how sometimes simple things solve big problems.

I do realize that, but something that simple and pointing out that there's a mute button... Totally unnecessary. If you read more of the details on my post, I took into account almost everything, from the OSD "Phone" display to the "No CDC", if it were the mute button, that would be a major oversight...

There will be fault codes store within the vehicle, for a limited number of ignition cycles, for this problem. Please request this information from the dealership and post it into this topic, or the original topic.

Wingless, how many cycles? Do you think it'll still be there on Friday? Thanks.

So far, I have not purchased the StarTekInfo, but for Porsche, which I have factory service information, it is 50 ignition cycles.

I guess you've never heard of the many times people have complained about something not working and then find out it wasn't connected.

I'll make a note of not telling you obvious things that might help you then, sorry.

First off, how is the mute button connected with my car's OSD saying that I have a phone and that it's off? Does the mute button "trigger" a phone somewhere on my car? Does the mute button have a "cut-off switch" to my CD changer so that my head unit says "No CDC" and does not even allow me to toggle with the changer's discs?
Did you know that if you press "Mute" and then use the steering wheel volume buttons it "unmutes" the stereo? Or was that something obvious that you were going to tell me later? I'm sorry, but the mute button? That's a no brainer... This isn't the same as looking everywhere for your sunglasses which just happen to be resting on your head.

Both H/K and Bose use cheap parts and intense ads to jack up their price and perceived prestigiousness.....

i know. but Carlos, when you get your AMG bumper with headlamp washer doors, you should say "hey, my washers don't work, they must not have been installed from the factory". youll have the headlight switch with the button and the bumper with the doors. might worth a try. lol

now back to flared tempers and H/K on backorder!

I get the "Still others never learn" part, it's actually quite ironic...
But "even when it's not with them"? Give me a break.

Must you always post a reply? You'll have over 1000 posts by the end of this week--that has to be a record.

Thanks for the gracious insight!
