I follow the FSS (you should have listed this as an option in the poll). It ends up being about 13-14 months in between changes. Can't really see a good reason to pay for more frequent changes when they are not needed.

It's been synthetic mobil 1 for very long time. I do mine at 5k since I want to keep my car a very long time. I spoke to a mechanic at benz that has worked for 13 years there and he told me the 11k is a joke. That's overkill. Most people don't keep their cars past 60k though is what he told me. Nov0798, 25k!!!! Are you crazy????

When I was in Hong Kong, I usually change it every 5000km (Mobil1) since the traffic in Hong Kong is slow compared to the States and the oil turned to a weird color faster. In the States, I usually change it every 5000 miles because I want to keep it in tip top shape for resale purposes.

So a lot of you have taken your cars to the dealer for "Early Oil Change" (Before what is schdueled on the onboard computer and/or Service manual booklet).....and none of the dealer told you to look in your owners manual? Like MY personal experience?

I'm willing to pay for my own oil change of course.....but I just wish they won't hassle me about doing a service the car early'n stuff......... I just reach the 5000Miles mark on my car today...and don't want to wait till 11000miles to do my oil change. I'll give other MB dealers a call tomorrow and see if they are willing to do this.

P.S. I also want to ask their mechanic to install 9006 Silverstar bulbs for my Fogs too...you think they will try to void my warrenty?

Changing your oil early can't hurt..... But remember, any work done at the dealer becomes part of your car file history..... I say use this rule of thumb. If the dealer sells it, then they can install it and their will be no warranty problems. I would never as them to install your 9006 bulbs.... Go to an independant repair shop that works on mercedes.... They will do it.....if you dont want to..... What state are you in?

Find an Independant Mercedes repair shop for you bulb install. One that does performance work would be great for your future mod installs Better would be to search this forum for someone else who live near you with mods and ask where they go.... Post it in off topic and you will get a good answer...

Just something I found while seaching for more information, if you are still troubled by when to change oil. Here's a link that may be helpful.

I went to a local shop that I know personally and got an oil change.......and what surprised me was that the oil that drain out was COMPLETELY BLACK!! Looks Nasty!! I've got 5000Miles on my car and its my FIRST oil change since I had this car. (05 230K Sedan)

I strongly recommand any of you that is waiting for that 10K miles for your first service to get an oil change earlier. I just can't imagin running on this dirty oil for another 5000miles to be changed.

Just thought I share my personal experience with you all.

P.S. Engine runs MUCH MORE smoother after I put in 5.8quarts new Mobil 1 0w-40. Less Noise coming from the engine.

Cool, this dealership is a little far for you then. I lived in Schaumburg back in the early 90's.
