Transmission control module programming?

Does anyone know if the TCU needs to be programmed to work? Or can I buy a used one from the salvage yard from the same car same model and it will work?

My understanding is that they're a direct swap if you buy the same version.

Guessing your TCU got soaked in transmission fluid. If this is the case, did you try simply hosing off the assembly with brake or electrical contact cleaner?

Yup I have disassemble the tcu and cleaned it with electric cleaner through the entire board with no luck.

Also, what do you mean by the same version?

For the safest result buy one that has the same HW and SW versions. A newer/different version may or may not work, though I imagine that as long as you get the same MB PN you’ll be fine. The firmware inside the TCU can be flashed by a dealer as well. I’m guessing the different HW versions may account for different features such as manual/automatic or AMG shift logic.

Just curious, what are the symptoms for a malfunctioning TCU?

I have been having hard and jerky shifting from 2-3 and also when I come to a stop, it wouldn't down shift.

As in the car would start in 3?

I once had a weird problem with the car dropping out of gear randomly during normal driving. It would go back into gear (2nd) if I dropped the speed below 40km/h. Updating the leaky pilot bushing fixed the problem. Opened up the passenger footwell to check a few years later and found the compartment soaked with old fluid which I mostly soaked up. The TCU casing and electronics were dry, but maybe it had all evaporated. I got lucky because there was a dip in the cable routing before the TCU so it looked like the fluid pooled and dripped off before reaching the TCU.

When it acts up, it does start in 3 or 4 or whatever it was in.

I have already changed the pilot bushing along with the conductor plate. Also I have a code of p2600 and p2601
