I have made that drive many times. If you get the self install kit from Steve I will come over and help you install and then we will drive over to MBKC and twist their arms to do the programming to add it to the cluster. Let me know....

Maybe we can find a few more KC or St Louis members and we can get Steve to make the first KC trip! I want a few things done too and I can host.

Wanda, Steve, are you seeing this???

2019 C300 Wagon; '75 Triumph TR6; previous: 2004 C230 6spd sold after 17 years of driving
bought a rack recently just like that, One of the best design and built racks I've seen, Makes the Thule look like junk.

Unfortunately I could not find as good a deal as you got and had to buy it from the dealership for $337CDN, in the US the Dealers sell it for $280. None to be found on ebay. Believe it or not they were backed ordered throughout north america in December/Jan

I would however get rid of the cable ties to attach the ski rack to the roof rack, not the best method of afixing it, best to secure it properly. I would not trust them (cable ties) to hold my valued Volkl's at highway speeds. Because if they break not only will the skis be wrecked but also your car will be damaged as well as the cars behind you and could cause quite the collision scene on the highway. If the front ones snap at that speed it will lift it off in a split second Also if the cops feel that you did not properly secure your load (cable ties were the method) you also could be charged. Just not worth the gamble

The de-icing membranes on aircraft propellers are held in place with cable ties around the hub. It just depends on how good the cable ties are.

2010 RRS ; BMW K1200R; 14 E350 ; 14 RRS on order
How easy are the racks to remove and install?
Is it the same rack for all MBs or different part numbers for each car?

Thumbs up Coupes: Safe Bike Rack Straps for Glass Hatch

I thought I might share a tip for those of you with coupes use a trunk/hatch mounted bike rack that utilizes straps. In most cases the end of the strap has metal flange/hooks on it. However, since the top of the hatch is glass and doesn't provide much of an edge to grab, I'd recommend using something like this http://www.nashbar.com/profile.cfm?sku=1113 . Also there are Yakima Glass Hatch Hooks and Saris Hatch Hugger Straps. I've been using the metal hooks myself for some time but have been nervous as hell that I'm gonna break the hatch. I'm ordering a set or may even do a DIY after perusing the local Home Depot.

EDIT:

I went down to Lowe's and bought 2 - 3/8" x 4" iron pipe sections (used for gas) and a sleeve of Polyethylene insulation. Cut the sleeve to the right size, add a dap of glue, and slip it on. You can cut out a section for the strap or just wrap it over the insulation. Use your existing straps (and cut/tie off the metal flange part) or you could buy a new pair of straps but I don't see the need. An easy DIYer that cost @ $5 that might save your glass hatch.

C230 Sport Coup + 2006 W164 ML350 + 99 Ford Escort (What the heck, it gets 38 mpg!)
There doesn't seem to be any racks out there designed to fit the hatch.

The roof rack costs as much as my bike...over $500 !!
And with a glass roof to contend with, oh fuggetaboutit!

I just pull the front wheel, fold down the seats and toss it in the back.
I have plywood cut to cover the carpet.

If you get this to work, please post pics.
It sure would be nice to have a rack.

I'm not understanding or getting a mental pic of your edit comment...
PLEASE post some pics.

install and removal is easy... takes like 5 minutes.. the rack is similar in design for all late models but totally different for each model. in other words the racks are all made specifically for each model. yeah, different part numbers for every car.
