Front Hubs/Wheel Bearings - Any Feedback Before I Start Replacement

The best price I could find for the bearing kit was AutohausAZ. When I ran into the problem with the wrong-size bearing, they were helpful and refunded the additional amount I had to pay the dealer for the correct part.

Apparently, based on the fact that I don't have a speed sensor error, I got the 2nd seal in ok.
So I used the head of the rubber mallet pressed up against the seal,
and a hammer on the other side of the mallet.
The head of the mallet just happens to be the same size of the seal, so just lined it and gently pounded it in.
Problem is the head of the mallet is convex protruding more from the middle than the sides, and mashed the center of the seal, and
pushed it in too far to the point where the bearing wouldn't turn by hand.
DOH! So, yeah 2nd time, just went around the edge, get the seal flush with the edge and be done with it.
Just thankful it's working, and new brakes are great!
Bad news (or good news depending on how you look at it) is that I discovered my 5 years old
Sumitomo's HTR AS02 tread is separating on the INSIDE. Good new because if it hadn't done the brakes I would not have seen it.
Big crack in the rubber all the way around the inside on the sidewall. Going to call Sumi and see what they can do.

I've always thought that was self-serving advice, but maybe there is something to it. If I recall correctly, the accident that killed Paul Walker in a Carrera GT was partially attributed to old tires.
I usually wear out a set of tires in about 25,000 miles which is about two years of driving so tire age hasn't been an issue for me. If I recall correctly, you have been working to get your car back on the road. If it had to sit for a while, that may have been a contributing factor.

Finally have a garage to take care of deferred maint. but other issues both related to this car and
outside of this car keep popping up.
ML350 was stuck, would not go into gear.
So out of 3 cars only one was working, the backup vehicle 99 Ford Escort which randomly has a CEL that then clears itself. Hmmm.
Looks like I got the ML350 resolved Sunday, replaced the shifter module.
iCarsoft kept saying it was defective, but I suspected it might have been an erroneous error since I also had a slew of Canbus errors mostly stored
not current
But with no Mercedes mechanics closeby (and even if there was a diagnostic would cost more than the part ($170 delivered)),
so took the plunge and it worked. Almost screwed up the clockspring but got that sorted out too. Big sigh of relief on that one.
Pics from Merc on the WIS docs suck! You really have to study the whole mechanism to see how it comes apart. I nearly took the clockspring apart, and a
ring with the arrow that determines how to set it could be put on in any of 3 different ways popped off the main ring YIKES!.
But a tennie tiny mark on the plastic allowed me to line it up.1 in 3 chance to get it right. LOL
Needed a magnifying glass to see it!
Thought the c230 would be back on the road but now, well, I don't plan on driving it very far. Maybe to town and back.
Working on trying to get replacements under warranty, but mostly focused today on voting. Nov 8!
Sent an email to Sumi and they said only 5 years since purchase and I'm off by one month.
F me! We'll see. Lucky me I was doing the brakes or I would not have known.
Other issue, seems the water pipe coming to the house is leaking to the tune of an extra $100 a month, and
it's on HOA property. And the list goes on. Oh and suddenly no water coming out of the fridge.
The wife is not happy and keeps pounding me with more and more crap she wants done, especially now that
the holidays are coming. I really need to spend some time on work/money related issues as well.
Rain is here finally in buckets and will be for the next 6 months, so also need to fix leaks in the ML.
I'm thinking tail light seals. Which BTW are no longer available for our cars.
Well no rest for the wicked.
