Hmm.. interesting that you think they dont smoke up. Mine certainly does, especially when i floor it. Very noticable when driving at night when you cover the car behind you in grey cloud... or maybe there is something wrong with my car???

Not many CDI's where I live so i have nothing to compare it too.. any idea's?

CitronC230K-
Good luck on CA and diesels, with the recent CARB ruling on CO2 and the even stricter emissions standards for diesels in '06-'07 CA definetely won't be getting diesels. Many car companies are worried about other states (not CA, and the other 4) and their diesel standards for '06-'07.

You can always hope though!

Ok, at nigth, when we have some car behind pointing with the ligths and if we put some "metal to the floor" whe can watch trough the rear view mirror some smoke, but its the only way to see smoke.
At day ligth there is a little amount of smoke only in some usage conditions.

Just because it smokes doesn't mean its bad. Newer diesel's are actually cleaner than gas. Just because you can't see it doesn't make it cleaner. Now if the US would clean up their stds there wouldn't be any need for differences between states. $0.02

In the E320 CDI the glow plug light is on the clock face at the top. It is on maybe 2 seconds, in warm weather. Saw it today.

I owned an 82 240D from new to 1996. You needed to learn how to drive it. When you wanted to go you learned to keep the pedal to the floor. On the highway it was fine but much noisier than a gas engine all in all. The other down side was the need to change oil frequently. It got as black as night real fast.

I would have considered a CDI but they are not offered in the C in Canada and the E dosn't offer a 4matic which was my requirement and is way to expensive.

If they had a 270 4Matic up this way that would rule.
