First time on MB, I apologize for any etiquette mistakes, but I’m reaching out for help. About 3 weeks ago I was driving my car and it started feeling very underpowered and the engine light then came on. I don’t typically go to Mercedes with any issues because the ones in my area have a reputation (well-deserved) of being huge scammers. I went to a local shop specializing in Mercedes and they ran a computer on it. Figured out it was my water pump for my turbo and got it replaced. They said they tested it and all was good and I came to pick it up. Immediately after picking it up, I noticed it wasn’t as powerful as it should be but I assumed maybe I was getting in my head, so I drove home. After a couple hours, the engine light comes back on. I call the shop back and they bring it back in for another scan. This time they tell me it’s a sensor and I believe it’s the boost pressure sensor, I think the part number started with a Y and was about 6-8 characters. We got that changed and they said that should fix the issue. This time, the car felt significantly more powerful but after about 25 miles the engine light came back on and it went back into limp mode. I have now brought it to another mechanic and he is saying it’s the wastegate that’s leaking and the entire turbo must be replaced, which is entirely false, as I know that part can be bought and replaced, he also tried to charge me $160 for a “supposedly much needed replacement” for my air filter, so I’m taking what this new guy is taking with a grain of salt. Is anyone else having anything like this and what solved the issue? I don’t have thousands of dollars to throw parts at what I know is an otherwise great and reliable car.
