Oh maaan. I spent a half hour today trying to figure out why I couldn't get into any of the settings. I pressed every button at least ten times and felt like a moron because I couldn't get it.

DAS = Diagnosis Assistance System

DAS is a Mercedes-Benz software tool part of the official STAR Diagnosis System.

It consists of DAS, an IBM ThinkPad, a multiplexer that enables a trained Mercedes-Benz technician to plug the Star Diagnosis system into the appropriate cable interface found on the vehicle, conduct a series of diagnostic tests, change settings in your instrument cluster, and identify and resolve problems.

Ok Guys, I went to use the DAS today and here is what I have. Tell the service guy to do the following procedure.

First hook up DAS
Then do Short Tests
Then Click on IC (instrument cluster)
Then Click Version Coding
Then Change Seat belt settings, there are 3 options.

Continous (UK SETTING)
Single Beep (USA SETTINGS)
OFF

Take your pick.

There is another menu before the version coding menu that is for optional equipment. here, there are options for telling the IC if the following options are installed

Stationary Heating SYstem
Tire Pressure Monitor
Keyless Go
Comand
Radio
Phone

What about the passenger setting that you talked about in the first post of this thread?

Did you upgrade your software to include the ESP based tire pressure monitoring function?

ESP Based tire pressure system is called TIRE PRESSURE LOSS WARNING. It's a passive system and yes I enabled it without any error messages. The reason I am not getting any errors is probably because my ESP was updated with the Latest software when i installed Distronic. I will not know if it works though until I get a flat. I will work on Active Tire Pressure monitoring next which will actually tell you pressure inside the tire. The seat belt option you are referring to is in IC, then go to bottom selection which is Options. There are a total of 3 selections if I remember correctly.

1. Version Coding
2. Optional Equipment
3. options.

In the options menu, the bottom most feature is the one for seat belt picture in the menu. Enable it and it will show you a picture and writing "Drivers Seat, Wear Seat belt" and "Passanger Seat, Wear Seatbelt" If there is no passanger sitting on the seat, the passanger warning will NOT show.

Do you have a compressor? The latest I had heard was that this was only updatable for July production MY03s and on. With a tire low it should give a warning. And it could be true with your DTR software update. According to my old source the TIRE PRESSURE LOSS WARNING was a separate software packet that needed another different software version in order to permit integration.

For the passenger setting I will forward this to my SA. Last time they looked they couldn't figure it out and thought it was country dependent. Did you verify this on your Europe setting or did you revert back to a US setting which almost all of us have?

my cluster is set to USA with the seat belt warning active in the display so you do not need to set it to another country setting. Also, since my ESP module got updated, it is the same as newer C classes now.

funny, ever since i've had my benz it has never chimed for me to put on my seatbelt. And i have always had that message pop up on my cluster for the passenger to put on their seatbelt when someone is riding with me.

first use the buttons on your steering wheel and make sure that the car is either on or have the ignition on accessories, then you can change your settings.

Now all I need is to get my ESP module updated somehow. The TIRE PRESSURE LOSS WARNING would be nice to have.

The ESP module is not flashed at the dealer. You have to get it replaced. Located in Engine compartment on ABS unit.

Any known faults that would require replacing it? Any TSBs addressing issues with it? :v

i totally agree andy. i too would like to enable this. im going to ask steve on saturday to enable some features for me.

i have a list things id like him to set for me.

1. passenger side seat belt warning
2. Mexico w/ IMS setting for my interior motion sensor
3. phone set to present so i get my phone menu back i had disabled

i think there was others but i cant think of them off the top of my head. i need to make a little list so i remember.

after reading other posts and a few conversations with sunman on the phone the passive system looks like ill have to pass.

i really wish i could enable this though.

True Doug

But the system is better than nothing at all. Especially if all it takes is an activation with minimal, cost effective, added parts. Please let us know what Steve may have to say/offer in that regard.

I need help:

I tried to turn off the seat belt chime and had no luck

I went to my dealer and gave him this instructions:
(he also wants to know how to turn it off, there are so many people sick of that beeping!!!)

"sunman's instructions

First hook up DAS
Then do Short Tests
Then Click on IC (instrument cluster)
Then Click Version Coding
Then Change Seat belt settings, there are 3 options.

Continuous (UK SETTING)
Single Beep (USA SETTINGS)
OFF

Take your pick.

The seat belt option you are referring to is in IC, then go to bottom selection, which is Options. There are a total of 3 selections if I remember correctly. My cluster is set to USA with the seat belt warning active in the display so you do not need to set it to another country setting.

1. Version Coding
2. Optional Equipment
3. Options.

In the options menu, the bottom most feature is the one for seat belt picture in the menu. Enable it and it will show you a picture and writing "Drivers Seat, Wear Seat belt" and "Passenger Seat, Wear Seatbelt" If there is no passenger sitting on the seat, the passenger warning will NOT show.

MBenzNL settings:

In the variable setting menus of the instrument cluster...there is a possibility to switch on/of the chime AND there is a possibility to switch on/of the seatbelt warning ligth (and thus still have a warning but not have the sound)..."

My situation is:
1- I have the chime (sound and ligth) on with the passenger warning also on (factory)
2-In DAS I only have "all world" "US" and "off" and not "UK"
3-set it to US and it only beep once and no warning ligth,or just the ligth is on for a few seconds???
4-I want to turn on the warning ligth and the picture, so where is that options menu described in last, and the variable settings menu??? my dealer couldn't find it.

I want to have only a warning beep, the big warning picture in the dash for seconds and then a little red warning sign.

Thanks for any kind of help

If you want a single beep you will need to go to US setting. You are correct that there is no UK, only all world, settings in our cars. Sunman's is heavily modified and therefore may have things showing that wouldn't normally show.
