Will you notice a difference if it's on or off? What exactly does ESP do? It's supposed to help you gain more control of your car when the roads are slippery, right? or am i missing something?

Yes. It is plain silly to have it off.

Why does every single car review of new MB's I read complain about ESP, and the first thing the reviewer does after getting in the car is turn off ESP?

Because they are going to test the car to its imits, they are not going for a normal daily drive, and even with esp off it is still on but not as intrusive

I always drive with mine on .

Pushing the switch will not completely disable it; Com'on Blackie. You know better. Turning it completely off requires getting into dyno mode.

They want to see what the car is capable off. The very fact that they complain about it means that they are amateurs, really, as they probably think that it robs the rear wheels of power - which it does not under normal conditions, and they can't even tell.

ESP is meant to assist an average driver, and it does the job really well. If you want a good proof - take your car to a parking lot covered by snow and try to do donuts - it won't let you. Instead, it will make your car move in the direction the steering wheel points it to.

I only turn it off if I want to have fun or if I am in a hurry on Dry Pavement and want to floor it without it kicking in on a shift. Like when merging on the short PA on-ramps.
