I have a very loud whining noise in the engine that people can hear me coming home. I have had a automatic transmission specialist look at the trans and he said not the transmission. I have taken the serpentine belt off and and noise is still there. Has anyone had this problem before and if so found out what it was or is.
I am new at this. My car is a 2006 C230 elegance. There are no other systems. Jusenti

I know my car is a 2006 C230 V6. I just did not know how this site listing worked. As I said I am new to this.
the noise is not from transmission and continues with the serpentine belt off. I am only wanting to know if anyone else has come across this problem and if it is worth spending money on repair or just wreck the car. The milage is just at 100,000kms.

C230 V6 SportCoupe 2007 swapped to M272E35
I was about to saw that in my case that whining / loud meowing cat noise was pulleys, I suspected it was the AC compressor first, but at the end it was pulley, that was not so evident but I had a spare borrowed, and it was it so then I changed it. But you got me off with that we ran the engine without the belt? I assume it was just briefly. (I have a V6, was originally M272E25 but swapped to a M272E35 that came out of an ML350, and I have a manual transmission, just contextual for the little differences but if the whining comes from the front and is not the transmission the engine structure is pretty much the same)

My WAG is the secondary air injection pump is running continuously instead of shutting off a few seconds after starting the engine. It's normal for the engine to whine for about 15-20 seconds every time you start the car.
On the M112/M113, it's on the top front of the engine. I *think* it's in the same location on the M272 that you have.
