WHat happend to my SErv A

I just take my car in every 10k miles and they do whatever service is scheduled next regardless of what the onboard computer says. I've heard some people say their dealers do it this way, but others who have complained that they follow the computer faithfully. My best advice is to give your SA a call.

My Service A & B's are also covered under the 4yr/50K mile service maintenance plan, but I do an extra oil change between each Service A and B, only because I want my oil filter to be nice & clean and keep my car healthy for many many years. Anyway, dealers charge between $80-$95 for a regular Mobil 1 Synthetic Oil change & oil filter. I did it at 6,000 miles, then Service A @ 12,000 miles, and again a couple of weeks ago at 18,000 miles. Service B should be coming up at 24,000 miles next year.

Read your manual, there is the answer to your question. If you pass service A for a period of time, the car will just change and say you need a B service. Both services, to me, aren't cheap. Benz cars are not made for value. I paid $42,000 three years ago for my car, and the Kelly blue book value says its only worth $13,500.

Going back searching the forum, I've been trying to compile a list of all the items that should be checked / serviced during SERVICE B. At some point, people were getting free brake pad replacement, wheel alignments, and windshield wipers. I don't think they do that anymore, but it won't hurt to ask. Anyway.... (Yes, i STFF and RTFM ! )
here's a list of SERVICE B items: (some are obvious) Others might fall under warranty repair, or not. Is there anything else missing from this list ?
- warning & indicator lamps, illumination & interior lighting (function check)
- 8252 windshield wiper, windshield washer system, headlamp cleaning system
- 8210 check windshield wiper system fluid levels, correct if necessary
- 9150 check seat belts for damage & proper function
- 8381 replace dust filter
- 8384 replace combination filter ( activated charcoal filter every 5 years )
- battery, check & correct fluid level; check battery condition using "Midtronics MCR 717" tester
- check catch, safety catch and hinges on engine hood for proper operation.
- check parking brake (function test only)
- 4280 replace brake fluid
- 4210 check brake system fluid levels, correct if necessary
- 0053 engine compartment, check for chafe marks, line routing, damaged components. In the event of leakage, determine cause & perform repair via separate work order.
- 0101 oil change / oil filter (duh !)
- 0053 undeside of vehicle - major components, check for chafe marks, line routing, damaged components. In the event of leakage, determine cause & perform repair via separate work order.
- 0090 suspension / arm link / bushing inspection
- 3353 check condition of front axle ball joints and rubber boots
- 4653 check conditions of steering mechanical components and rubber boots
- 4611 check power steering fluid level, correct if necessary
- 7732 pano roof (Coupe) clean & lubricate guide mechanism
- 0980 replace recirc air filter every 60,000 or 4 years.
- 1351 check engine poly-V-belt condition (replace if necessary)
- alignment (less than 12,000 miles)
- 4251 check condition / thickness of brake discs front/rear
- 4251 check brake pads for lining thickness front/rear
- 4051 check tires for damage and condition
- 4051 measure tread depth, record in mm
- correct tire inflation pressure
- correct tire inflation pressure in spare tire
- reset FSS counter in instrument cluster

I have the oil changed at every 6,000. Just for my own peace-of-mind.
I don't intend on selling the car, so I want to make sure it lasts.
While the oil itself might last 15,000 miles (that's great ! ), the components that the oil runs through, might enjoy some fresh, new, really clean oil every so often.
German engineering is pretty good, and these cars are designed to go the 12,000-13,000 miles without a change, but for $80 every six months or so, at least I'm know the car is happy !
So, anybody got any more SERVICE B tips ????
or CL203 Coupé-specific TSB's ???

Guys my car is now about 6 months old and I have about 6900miles on it. Reading this thread i guess i should be thinking oil change just for my piece of mind, but is it necessary really/ My service A has not come up on my computer, but according to the search and your guys suggestions sounds like service A is around 12k? Is that correct? Started reading the manual, but did not read into it too much......Should I just get an oil change now and take it in or no?

Service A is around 12k-13k miles.
It's completely up to you if you want to do an oil change at the mid-point interval.
It is NOT required. Some may argue that it is a waste.
Like I said, I only do it because I intend on keeping this car until it's a classic.
For peace of mind, and to ensure everything is running smoothly, I have the oil changed every 6-7k miles. One is free (A) / one I pay for / one is free (B) / one I pay for / etc... (A) / (B) ....until my 4 yr Maintenance Commitment is up.

oh, btw, don't just read your manual (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to read cover to cover),
but also read your Service Booklet. Lots of good information in there too !!!

I can't see any reason to change crankcase oil more often than the factory suggests, unless severe conditions indicate a shorter interval. Even if you do the change yourself, it will cost around 75. for the seven quarts of oil, and a filter. The specific Mobil1 can be hard to find, and auto part stores computer suggest a variety of Mobil1 that does not go 15,000 miles. Keep in mind that you must use the MB specific 'fleece' oil filter, and you should suck the oil out of the car. May I suggest this tool for a casual owner: http://www.right-tool.com/lioilchpukit.html
For the C240, this is the oil data sheet: http://www.mobil.com/USA-English/Lub...bil1_0w-40.pdf
If you want peace of mind, get your used oil analyzed by a lab. I have used these guys. For under 30. they told me the oil was fine, but my air cleaner needed to be replaced. My car has 7000 miles, but I did take a 60 mile off road (dusty) trip in the desert.
http://www.oillab.com/bestoil.html
If Mobil1 engines can go 200,000 miles with virtually no wear when changed according to the manufacturers schedule, what is the advantage of changing it more often?
For those of you with a 2005, MBUSA offers a service plan that takes care of Service A and B during the warranty period. Buying it will protect you from price increases for those services. If you tend to use a lot of brake pads and rotors you can add protection for that to the service plan, at extra cost.

Now of course, changing your oil won't hurt anything (other than your wallet).

For once, I agree with Rev.
Spending 4 lapdances' worth of money on **** retentiveness is a waste.
Really, with the gaudy surplus of ambulance chasers out there, would MB and Mobil both be willing to leave themselves open to possible litigation by being too generous in their allowable mileage?

I retract my statement, then. Everyone should change their oil at every 1,000 increment.
Sap - the only thing that I can think of is the TSB for the front turn signal bulb housings.

Thanks fellas for the advice.... I also called my MB rep and he told me nope don't need to bring it in till 10-12k or after 1 yr whichever comes first. I guess this synthetic oil stuff really goes a long way.......
