The new SLK is still a couple of years down the road, though.

I seriously doubt it will because the pulley changed significantly between 2000 and 2002 on the C230K and the 1.8 is so much smaller. Although it fits the C200K so there's a possibility. If it's different it will take the tuners about a year to get up and going on the new motor. Look how long it took Kleemann on the alloy pulley and it's not out yet but the same pulley on the same motor has been out since May 2000 on the SLK230s. Also they are squeezing that 1.8 more than the 2.3 so the gains may not be as much.

It will probably easier to buy the new headlights from MB for the 2002 than to try to get more HP out of the 1.8 anytime soon.

The odd and, perhaps, interesting thing about this is: The press releases from MBZ AG mentions "...the 2.3l liter M111 engine is unchanged for 2003..." however go into painful detail of the new 1.8 liter direct injection (stratified chagre) engine. After checking with our local MBZ dealer I can report that ALL 2003 Coupe models on their build sheets are indicating 1.8l engines.

Buellwinkle may very well be right- we will have to see how much "room" there is for more power with the new direct injection system (this type of fuel injection operates at EXTREMELY high pressures).

The direct injection version of the new 1.8L will not be sold in North America. The high sulfur content of our gasoline will destroy to cats used with the direct injection.

Chris, just curious...which dealer are you talking to in the area? I just picked mine up from Mercedes of Rochester and was wondering who you were using?
