Floor shifter issues not going into park

I bit the bullet and purchased a new shifting unit. Part number matching unit.

Before replacing, I could drive for a couple days with no issues. Then have issues with the car not knowing where the shift lever was placed.

Symptoms were, car stuck in gear and not being able to shift from D to anything past N

It was super random. The piece that needs to be fixed is able to be removed... Just be warned that unless you remove the entire shaft, you run a high risk of damaging one or two tabs to the failed devices.

Hello all, I am new to this forum and excited to exchange ideas. I recently acquired a w203 w/ m271 engine and I had the same issue. The module inside of the gear selector goes bad. I went to the local salvage yard and picked up 3 for $25 ea. The first one worked like a charm and I sold the other 2 for $100 each after testing them. Since these cars are 19 years old I have found many of the parts I have needed I our local pick a part. Also when your taking your used part out you can learn how it comes out and what not to do when taking your own car apart. There's a metal clip, the park cable twists off, and I believe there are 2 plugs after removing the center console. These cars are fun to work on and are not as expensive as some think. Just saying, hit up the junk yards because you will save tons of money and if you grad multiples you can sell the others to fund other parts needed. Cheers...
