Lightbulb Engine running poorly - m271

Hello everyone,

I've been dealing with an ongoing issue with my 200 Kompressor M271 (163hp) for the past seven years, and despite spending what feels like thousands of dollars, I still haven't pinpointed the problem. The car has a rough idle and frequently shuts off one cylinder. It drives fine, but as soon as I put it in neutral (it's a manual), one of the cylinders stops working, and the engine runs poorly on just three cylinders. Turning the car off and back on seems to temporarily fix the issue.I've replaced the spark plugs at least five times, installed new coils multiple times, swapped out the MAP sensor, MAF sensor, and cleaned the throttle body. A mechanic checked the live stats and confirmed the throttle body is working normally. I've also replaced both O2 sensors, which was quite expensive, but the problem persists.

I've consulted at least 7-8 different mechanics, but none have found the root cause, often suggesting numerous potential reasons.I'm starting to suspect it might be the crankshaft or camshaft, though I haven't replaced them yet. The car starts without hesitation, so I'm unsure. If anyone has any recommendations or advice, I would greatly appreciate it.

This sucks, but time to pop by the dealer and pay for a diagnostic. They can see codes that most indies can't see.

If there is a CEL, what are the code(s)?

Are you installing quality parts? A lot of poor quality parts out there that cause problems right out of the box.

Have you checked the wires for the coils, they might be cracked or broken.

I don’t know how to make new thread but I got a 2004 c230k m271

2004 c230k m271 engine timing was off so tried getting it correct , at first had it off went over again wit more knowledge now i have 0 misfires on all cylinders except cylinder 3 , cyl 3 had like 20 30 misfires before i turned that b* off this mf buggin already my car was running perfectly fine before i messed wit the timing , only reason i messed with timing because i thought timing was off due to balancer not on ot at tdc neither was cam marks , chain seems tight but after i did the timing when i was driving it testing it when that sC ⚡️would kick in I could hear and feel like the chain would slip type thing is it the chain stretched or I reused the tensioner do I need a new tensioner and that’s what all this is about I’m leaving it until I get a new tensioner and might as well a chain cause the tensioners run for like 80$ n a 🥷🏽 ain’t got no 80$ then another 80$ just cause the chain was stretched was the main problem , help a 🥷🏽 out this 💩 gettin annoying bs *** balancer had me thinking timing was off whole time it prolly was on point , but recap of this cyl 3 misfire rest none at all I feel like I got the Tdc on point , cam marks a little off but not even a link full off ,
