Tire Pressure: What do you run at?

OK so MB says something like 29F and 32 Rear.
Bah. I do a lot of fairly straight driving 30 miles at a stretch minimum and around
town, so I can run it higher. I typically run 32-24 psi.
And this is on 225/45/17 tires that are rated up to 50 psi.
I had a tire that had a slow leak pumped up to 40psi and I could feel the
lower rolling resistance on takeoff, getting up to speed with less effort.
And that was just one tire! Whats the best pressure to run at for maximum tire life and fuel MPG?
I bought an external tire pressure monitor and I want to set up my tires at the optimal
pressure for long wear and MPG.

For strict fuel efficiency, the higher pressure the better.

Personally I run 34psi front 36 rear on the summers (staggered) and 32-34 all around for the winters. The factory 28 is much too low imo.

For me, the goal is to optimize tire longevity without compromising traction. Comfort takes a back seat in these setups. The stock 17" setup is noticeably bumpier than the stock 16".
