My comments were just true statements based on the m111 coupe this thread is about.

Speedwerx, how did you get the intake in there? Im guessing you custom made one because i have the '02 c230k (2.3L) with ASP pulley, eisenmann exhaust, SI chip tune... and have always wanted to put an intake in.. but the heat shield is in the way. As your message says, there isnt alot of space to work under the engine and i would tend to agree. Did you get adequate room when you removed the s/c ???

You guys do realize that this particular car was a piece of crap and the turbo kit did not function properly. This was done on a m111, not a m271. Also, I believe the original owner sold it and the new owner tried to sell it on ebay because they didn't have the proper people to help make it work properly.
The speedwerx car was sold to another member on here, who knew nothing about car maintenece or Mercedes, (i had to put on his evolution grill for him) but he did know about Nuclear Reactor maintenence (go figure)-- I was able to drive this car before, and after it went to Orlando Turbo to be properly tweaked. The car was not crap but needed a more thought out approach to placement of certain items within the engine bay--the heat from the turbo was not properly shielded on the passenger side causing a couple of issues, (like needing to relocate the coolant resovoir) in the pictures it did not show the heat wrap that was applied, it looked horrible---also the turbo electronics under the hood (turbo timer maybe) were left open to the environment and the controling circuit board was left to the environment and thus had a bit of corrosion under the ELECTRICAL TAPE WRAPPED CIRCUIT BOARD which caused some of the running problems) it should have been located within the fusebox. I was offered the car but was not in the market for it---last I heard he was shipping it to Costa Rica, which is where he was moving to with his wife.
I was able to drive this car and smoked the wheels from first to third in 19" rims--- it was much faster than the pullied coupe and super quick, a whole other beast---- there should be more innovators that do this kind of thing, it was not in competition with any other product that anyone else has made. But someone should polish off the workings of it with a little more finesse--- The only thing i disliked about this car was the horrid blow off valve sound, it sputtered rather than giving my much liked PFSSSSSST!!!!!!!!!!

Not that digging up this thread is a great thing, but I feel i have to give my 2cents on this car due to having my hands on it a couple of times.

The guy (Jason) that speedwerks sold it to just wanted a mercedes and saw that one on Ebay and just had to have it, he really did not know what he was getting himself into and when he took it to the dealership he was over a barrel and they did not want to touch the car due to the modification--- I think he just saw the hood and thought it looked like a wrx being blue and all(it was quite hideous but needed to cool the turbo somehow) It had issues as soon as he bought it, and living a 1/4 mile in from the bay did not help the electronics left to the elements.--- eventually i will post some other pictures that I took while it was at my house---also "Kompman420" also saw this car when we all had a little mini 3 coupe meet in Tarpon Springs and i'm sure could attest for the inadequacies, but as we all know he was banned some time ago as well as sold his coupe .....![evil tongue](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/eviltongue.gif)
Now tuikku, we really need to see pictures of your sportscar diesel because we can't get our hands on those over here

That's such a sad story. It troubles me when non-enthusiasts purchase a car and have absolutely no idea what they're getting into or don't have the resources/support around them to maintain a "project" car. Just one of those things that I cherish about living in L.A.!

Newbie
Hello...My name is Eric. I am the one who purchased the "Speedwerx project car." The one who "...knows about Nuclear Reactor maintenance" and "...who knew nothing about car maintenance or Mercedes." I found this car on eBay by doing a search for EVO, SRT and a few other terms, as I had saved enough money to get out of my Hyundai Accent and into a preferred vehicle. I did loads of research on this vehicle, including following MBWorld and MBKlasse forums on this project, prior to the release of funds to Speedwerx. As I followed this project and read through both forums, I became an enthusiast. However, being an enthusiast doesn't make me knowledgeable to perform maintenance or creative/unguided modifications, especially to the extent this vehicle contains. I think anyone who purchased this vehicle, enthusiast or not, would not expect to continuously babysit this vehicle, as is obviously needed.
I tried the MBKlasse forum and its not around. I moved to Costa Rica in 2005 and took it with me.
In the US, this vehicle was “the shizzle!” However, Speedwerx left some residual problems:
1. There is a small ground somewhere in the vehicle, drawing about 25 to 50 ma, even after all the processes shutdown. I have spent $$$$ on trouble shooting and no one can find it, not even Mercedes of Tampa. It causes the battery to drain, if the vehicle sits for more than 2-3 days. I have troubleshot this myself, monitoring the current draw and selectively removing fuses.![Confused](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/confused.gif)
2. The fiberglass insulation wrapped around the headers is beginning to break down and peel back. It was quarter lapped (top wrap covering 1/4"of lower lap)
3. The AC is blowing out hot air, probably needs recharging.
4. The turbo oil feed hose broke down, after a Costa Rican removed the pad from around the turbo.
I had to drive the car home with it massively smoking. The replacement of this hose was difficult for me. No one here, in CR, can or will work on a car like this. I performed the hose replacement and it wasn't easy. The hose connected from a modified fitting under and between the headers, welded to the engine block. The original hose was a 4AN steel braided hose, cover by an oil soaked rubber hose. The hose I ordered was a 3AN steel braided hose, which came with 1/8" fittings and not 1/4" fittings. I paid $35 for 2 specialty connectors from a racing shop in Orlando, which allowed me to connect the 1/8" hose connection to the 1/4" flow restricted elbow atop the turbo.
5. The rear has a hole warn into the under carriage, since the car is so low to the ground. Car can't contain more than 2 passengers, with none in the back.
Due to the adverse road conditions (potholes and road structure) in Costa Rica, it is not "CR friendly." The HR springs lowered the vehicle quite a bit from the OEM height.
The vehicle tax in CR is 50% of vehicle worth. To drive a vehicle here in CR, it must be either have tourist plates, which only last 6 mos, or be registered in CR. This would cost me $7,500 to obtain a CR license plate!![EEK!](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/eek.gif)
I finally got it running again. I have had many Costa Rican car enthusiasts and Costa Rican Mercedes mechanics look at this vehicle. They all are afraid to purchase and/or work on it.
I have 2 options, wait to go back to the US or continue to try and sell it here![nix](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/nixweiss.gif)

These pics were all taken by Speedwerx. Now it has the Evolution grille, as stated in previous post.
Immediately after purchasing this vehicle from Speedwerx, I discovered all these problems in the vehicle. Driving home from the purchase, the turbo hose came off. The hose clamp that holds the inlet elbow to the turbo is "max clamped" (metal-to-metal). So I, yes me, switched it with the inlet hose clamp, since the inlet had 4" of pipe inside the elbow. The car emits a burning smell, which is “insulation burn-in,” according to Speedwerx, and “…eventually it will go away.” To no surprise, the smell remains, after 3 years. The rear differential went out and I had a lower differential installed. The electrical ground condition became worse. No shops I took this to (Central Florida Turbo, MB of Tampa and another specialty shop) located the problem. Before I left to CR, I had an electrical disconnect installed.
Speedwerx knew of the electrical ground and burning smell. After the rear dif went out, Speedwerx claimed he would pay for half of the differential and half of the ground troubleshooting. When I asked for payment, he stopped answering my calls and emails. When I dyno'd the vehicle at Central Florida Turbo, it snapped many of the Rojah wheel lugs nuts. I had to buy Mercedes wheel lugs nuts. Turns out, theres a slight lug nut hole misalignment as the bolt pattern is not exact. BTW, car dyno'd at 307HP.
Main problem I have with this vehicle is all the tie wraps, modified rubber hoses and “monkey-work” Speedwerx did to this vehicle. The more work I have to do on this vehicle, the more "surprises" I find. I am extremely concern with the header insulation decay, as it will eventually overheat surrounding materials and components. I welcome any TV car show or MB Xtreme to take this vehicle and make it right..."But someone should polish off the workings of it with a little more finesse." There’s not a lot of work left to be done, but there is some work left to bring this car to its true potential. Speedwerx must have run out of money
