rear shock clunk

I swapped out my rear shock, drivers side. The job went simply enough, didn't encounter any problems except now i have a clunk noise when i hit bumps. Is there something that i couldve overlooked? Done plenty of shocks before straightforward removal and reinstall/ Any help please? Thanks

Here are a few thoughts:

It looks like you only replaced one shock. The guidance I've seen recommends that they be replaced in pairs. Is there a difference in the replacement shock and the one that you didn't replace?

Is it possible that the shock is not fully tightened? I replaced my shocks about a year ago and I recall that after the car settled for a while that I was able to tighten it a few more turns.

I have a similar thing. Annoying clunk at the rear, replaced shocks and noise completely gone.
All ok for a few weeks now I have an odd noise when hitting bumps but only from the rear left.
I will check the lower bolt which screws into the subframe when I get a chance. The top nuts are fine.

What manufacturer shock did you use ?

This is a good question. The next question is what occurs on these cars when new and worn shocks are run together?

I used Bilstein, B4's on mine. Bilstein B4's are meant to be equivalent to the OE factory shocks for the vehicle. I considered installing Bilstein B6's for a firmer ride, but I decided the factory sport suspension on my car was a good compromise between comfort and handling.
This link leads to a discussion of B4 vs B6 vs B8.
