2) Are you able to turn the key?
If 1), then the steering wheel lock is functioning. Not sure if this mechanism is known for failing.
If you have to jiggle the key fob in the EIS (electronic ignition switch) before 1) and 2) can happen, then the EIS is defective (physical wear). If this is the case, mention it here and I can point you in the right direction.
