exhaust tips melt rear bumper?

Got my car today!
Great car, 4matic difference is like day and night...
Installed chrome exhaust tips from performanceproducts.com later on and the tips come pretty close (1 inch or so) to the rear bumper...although there are slits for the exhaust to go out on the bottom the top of the tips still get pretty hot. Im worried that my rear bumper may melt, anyone have any light to shed on this?

It may; at the very least, it'll get soot on it.

I had this problem with my Eisenmann after it was installed. But my pipes were a little closer. Remedy: let it melt the bumper a little, take a razor blade to the bumper, let it melt again, repeat, until no burning. It's not that big of a deal, unless you're very **** (not that there's anything wrong with that).

But you may not have this problem; in any case, you'll know shortly.

I had those tips on for about a month with no problems (except that they look terrible from the side, but that's a whole 'nother story). I wouldn't expect you to have any problems with your bumper melting.

my eisenmann was touching the bumper on the inboard side of the cutout, so I modded the hanger to drop it a lil'bit for clearance. not too sure if it'll melt, but at least it doesn't touch now... we'll have to wait n'see I guess

Has your bumper melted yet? Do you have any photos of your car with the exhaust tips? I am thinking about getting them and want anyone's opinions.

haha, hey, nice to see an old post of mine revived...

Since I purchased the car in late december it has only been driven 1,500 miles!
Therefore it's too early to make a decision on whether the bumper will melt or not. Last time I looked it showed no signs of pre-melting.

Just last month I was considering taking them off as I sort of got sick of the fake look they give from the side...from a far side view these two chrome lumps come out of nowhere.

They are still on and have sort of forgotten about them...will post pictures tommorow for you..

If I were to do it again I would consider a replica AMG exhaust but the price and risk of modification were of no interest to me at the time.
